What's New In Weapons May 2007
A new device has been developed for the Special Forces. It is a delta shaped wing. It looks like an airplane wing but much smaller, you could say it is personal sized. Stood on its back edge it is smaller than the average sized man. It is also jet propelled. Now here comes the strange part. A soldier wears it. By wearing it I mean it is strapped to his back. Wearing this wing, he can fly virtually anywhere undetected. He has to wear a special uniform. The uniform protects him, at higher altitudes, from freezing temperatures and in fact, gives him temperature protection down to -67 degrees F. The helmet supplies oxygen if needed. The wing is carbon fiber and is almost invisible to radar. It has been designed to be very quiet. Inside of the wing there is a one half gallon fuel supply for the jet engines. The wing is steered by a twist grip that the pilot holds. We know that computers are in almost everything today and the wing is no exception. There is a system built into the wing that supplies stabilization and guidance. That means it can be set to deliver the pilot to the exact location he wants. You better not be too large if you are going to fly this thing, the absolute weight limit for a pilot is said to be about 210 lbs and that is with all his equipment. The engines are two mini turbojets and can hit 140 mph and the range is said to be about 125 miles. Not too shabby. A new sniper rifle has come into use in the last few years. It shoots an enormous .50 caliber bullet. It is the M107. It is semi automatic and is being issued to the infantry. What makes this rifle so special is that it can accurately snipe targets at 2,000 meters. That is almost 1 1/6 mile away. That range is for material targets, human targets can be hit accurately up to 1500 meters away. When I was in the service, the maximum we would ever shoot, on the range, was 500 yards using a M14. The rifle has a magazine that holds 10 rounds. For those of you that have never seen a .50 caliber bullet, they are huge and can pierce light armor if jacketed for that. These rifles have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is also a XM109 that fires 25mm ammunition. It is a much heavier projectile. Either of these bullets can cut a human in half if he is hit. According to Pravda, the Russian newspaper, the U.S. is seeking to develop a bomb much more powerful than a nuclear one. So what type of weapon is this? It is called a isomeric gamma ray weapon. It works by absorbing radiation, then re emits far more powerful radiation. It is said to absorb x-rays and emit higher frequency gamma rays in huge amounts. Rumors have persisted that we have a sub quantum atomic bomb. These weapons are said to be part of the Black Budget for secret projects. It is said that 20 billion dollars were pumped into this budget in 2004 and that it is much more now. This scares some scientists because they feel that if such a weapon was set off, it could rip the fabric of space. We have never learned our lesson. We developed the atom bomb, only to have the secret stolen, then the hydrogen bomb and again the secret was stolen. If we develop this bomb, will every atomic nation have one in 10 years or less? Instead of trying to protect ourselves from nuclear weapons, which are horrible enough, will we be in the position of having to protect ourselves from quantum weapons that might have the capability to destroy the world? Here is a link to a government site that talks about nuclear isomers, it is in the form of a pdf file. Podkletnov, a Russian scientist, is said to be one of the world's leaders in anti gravity studies. Boeing was said to be very interested in hiring him and it was thought that Boeing wanted to perfect some sort of antigravity engine. It has come to light that anti gravity is not the only thing that Podkletnov is working on. He put out a paper stating that in his research of anti gravity he discovered a strange beam of "gravity like radiation". It is said that this beam would be capable of destroying missiles and even satellites in orbit. The Marines have a new weapon called the SMAW-NE and believe me, you wouldn't want it fired at you. Not that you would want any other weapon fired at you either. It is a very deadly shoulder mounted assault weapon. So why is this weapon so much more deadly than most of the others? That is because it fires a new type of warhead. It is called a NE, which means Novel Explosive. It is a thermobaric mixture and when it is fired, it ignites the air and produces a shockwave that can knock down buildings and leave nothing there. Even most of the rubble gets blown away. Ouch! It is being used in Iraq. When it was fired against a large one story masonry building there, the building disappeared. It was used in the battle for Fallujah. Since the NE round doesn't have penetrating power, a conventional round would be fired to make a hole in the building, then the NE round fired. There is a proposal now that some obsolete shoulder fired weapons be refitted with NE warheads. Did you know that there is something called the Law of Armed Conflict and most nations subscribe to it, including the U.S. One of the things that it states is that no type of robotic weapon can be used to kill humans unless a human is in the loop. Here is the rub. More and more robotic weapons are being used. The military has decided to give the law a new legal interpretation. They propose to use robots only to aim at weapons and not humans. For example if an enemy soldier is aiming a rifle, the robot would target the rifle, that would also kill the human. Aren't politicians great. They simply have their lawyers completely destroy the meaning of a law, so that it suits them. One thing is for sure, this will open the door to Terminator type robots that will also make mistakes. You think friendly fire deaths are bad now, wait until these babies start feeling their oats. Lastly, we have a new rifle. It is a laser rifle that can stun enemy soldiers and is said to leave no lasting ill effects. The device is said to dazzle the enemy, but will not blind them permanently. It is called a Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response rifle or PHSR. Prototypes were tested in 2005. This is not the first laser weapon that uses light to blind enemies. Originally lasers were developed in the past that blinded enemy soldiers, but were banned by the UN convention . These weapons produced permanent blindness. |
