The U.S., along with Russia and maybe some unknown countries, have thought that it is very important to control the weather. While this might be a huge benefit to farmers and others who rely on perfect weather conditions for growing crops or raising animals, this is not the main reason for this desire. As with so much of what we do, the U.S. military sees weather control as the ultimate weapon. Think of it, when you drop a nuke on someone the area stays radioactive for many years making the land uninhabitable but hit that place with a fierce tornado or hurricane and you can get just as much damage without the resultant radiation. Another reason this would make the perfect weapon is that no one knows how to stop it today. Just look at New Orleans, La. and the terrible damage inflicted upon the people there. The chaos that Katrina caused still exists. Many people still haven't been able to return to their homes. If many storms of this nature were to occur over a country simultaneously, the country would be wiped out without losing a man from the opposing army, this could be the poor man's nuclear weapon substitute.

Hurricane

There is a belief that both the Russian and American governments possess a weapon that can control hurricanes. It is called the hurricane gun. As a matter of fact, a few people accused the Russians of creating the Katrina Hurricane because a Russian government official had made a statement to the effect that he would drown us. People have been trying to control the weather for many years. In 1945 people began in ernest to develop a way to control the weather. The military both here and in Russia (Former Soviet Union), poured large sums of money into various weather controlling projects but as far as we know, none bore fruit. Most of these projects were abandoned by the early 1970s. But even before that, there were people that claimed that they could make it rain by seeding the clouds. Desperate farmers would pay and the pilots would take their rickety planes up, either seed a few clouds or claim to have seeded a few clouds and promise rain in a few days. This gave them enough time to make their getaway with their newly found resources. But as the cold war progressed, things became more serious. Both sides desperately wanted a weather weapon.

Rain and Lightning Storm

Some say that we have already used one type of weather weapon. They claim that we have created rain during battles to make the ground very muddy. If the idea of weather weapons sound crazy to you, then why are there now companies like Weather Modification Inc., in Fargo N.D.? This company is one of the leading companies in the world in seeding clouds and causing rain. The company is taken so seriously that Wyoming held a hearing on whether to pony up over eight million dollars for rain in 2004.

Hurricanes seem to be the storms that the military wants to control and indeed may already be able to control. In case you don't know it, degrees are issued at both the Naval Weapons Center and Navy Post Graduate School in California. Besides using hurricanes as weapons it may be possible to reduce their velocity, direction and size. It is thought that if the clouds above the hurricane are seeded with silver iodide the winds would blow the clouds away because they would be loaded with droplets. The area of energy would be reduced in the hurricane, but could return hours later and require more seeding. If this technique would have been used to slow down Katrina it may have prevented billions of dollars in damage and many lost lives.

Are hurricanes and rain all that a weather weapon could create? I have no way of knowing if tornados can be created and used as weapons but if they could, they would be one of the fiercest battle field weapons available. Think of it, instead of calling up an artillery strike, you send a tornado at the enemy positions. If this didn't take him out, I don't know what would. Again your men remain safe as nature devastates the enemies position. But wait, the enemy also has weather weapon knowledge and he sends a tornado back at you. So where did all this get us? Could a weather weapon really be used? It sort of sounds like the nuclear standoff to me. You know what I mean, if you fire yours then I fire mine. That is the problem with all mass destruction weapons. The one thing with a weather weapon is that it will be hard to determine if the hurricane coming your way was sent there on purpose by some rogue nation, or it was just nature doing it's thing.

Tornado

An article in Pravda talks about weather control but also mentions the HAARP project in the U.S. Since the function of this project is secret, but everyone knows it burns holes in the atmosphere, it is suspected of being able to alter the weather. The official explanation of the project is communications, but many people don't believe this. But Russia has their own HAARP project, it is called Sura and it is said to be every bit as powerful.

If weather modification does exist, let's hope that it will be used to increase crop yields and maybe make our climate a little nicer in some areas and not to wipe out thousands of unsuspecting people by sending some huge tidal wave over their city or blowing them away. Wouldn't it be nice for once if we didn't have to find a military use for everything?
