I usually don't write articles about ufo encounters on an individual basis, but one was brought to my attention by a long time reader of About Facts Net . When I read the details of his sightings, I realized that I had never heard anything like this before and it would be interesting to write an article about it. Most ufo reports tell of disk shaped objects, triangular ones, or orange globes that sometimes look like they are on fire. The discs are said to sometimes hover over places or follow cars. The triangular objects usually sail across the sky at night and are very quiet. They are usually at a low altitude. The orange globes seem to be on fire and sometime separate into several individual craft, as they race across the sky. If it wasn't for the fact that they sometimes change direction and break up into small craft, they could be mistaken for flaming meteors. None of these were the case in the sighting that I am going to tell you about.

The sighting took place way back in 1968. It was the Autumn. It happened in Nottinghamshire, in the U. K. The witnesses to the event were an amateur astronomer and his friend. What he would do, is use his bedroom's back window to sight his binoculars from. The window faced the garden and there were woods on either side. It was quite secluded. One day when he was doing a little star gazing, he noticed a red star. It was between 10:30 and 11:00 pm. He stated that it reminded him of the planet Mars, but it was too big, when you looked at it with the naked eye. He thought that it looked strange and on a whim, he and his friend decided to try and signal it with a lamp, by turning it on and off repeatedly As the two people watched the red ball, it began to grow larger. It wasn't actually getting larger, it was getting closer and it had been a large object to start with. When he looked at it through his binoculars, he could see the surface of the disk was changing from ruby red to a dazzling red light. Even though it was extremely bright, it cast no light on the ground.

The two guys closed the bedroom window and when they did that, the object vanished immediately. It had been hovering at about 75 feet off the ground by that time. Then something even stranger happened. They heard this loud roaring noise like the engine of a prop plane. The noise seemed to be going very slow and they followed it with their ears, because they couldn't see anything. They ran to the window and opened it again. They still couldn't see anything, because of the darkness. Then they noticed that there was a red upside down "V" shaped light form some object in the sky. It seemed to be flying in circles and made three complete circles in the same spot. Approximately one hundred yards on their right, they could see a red fan shaped beam of light. It was narrow at the top and wider at the bottom and it shot down from the object into the woods for a few seconds. He had no idea of what was going on at the time. He felt that he had to find out what was happening and he and his friend ran down the stairs into the garden.

As they got to the garden, a defining sound started to approach them. The sound seemed to come from down the street. Apparently the object was flying very low, since it got illuminated by a new street lamp that had been installed. To his utter surprise, a World War II vintage fighter plane was heading their way. This plane was lower than the surrounding homes. It had the bands of a Hurricane fighter, but no insignia of any kind. The cockpit became illuminated by the light, but he and his friend couldn't see anyone flying it. It was now flying between houses. It was almost like it was showing off. It finally headed toward the field at high speed. It then came back and did the same thing two more times, before disappearing. As the plane headed toward the garden for the last time, it just became silent and disappeared. This was quite unusual for any airplane.

The two friends watched the sky until almost dawn, but the plane and the object never came back.

So what happened here? It is said that some ufos have no trouble at all changing their shapes. Could a ufo have changed itself to look like a World War II fighter, for the amusement of the two people watching it? Why did the ufo disappear and at seemingly the same instant, the plane appear and started doing very unlikely things for a plane to do? It seems to have been doing things that have been associated more with ufos than planes. Think about it, how many planes would fly just a couple of feet off the ground and in the dark to boot, maneuver between homes and be able to make such tight turns. The answer has to be, none. These maneuvers are impossible for any plane, except maybe a helicopter and this was not a helicopter.

If aliens are piloting ufos, could that have taken a plane that they captured and improved it, so that it would be capable of much better flying abilities? I guess this is always a possibility. I don't know why they would want to bother, but who can say what an alien might be thinking? All in all, I have to say that this is one of the more interesting ufo reports that I have seen.
