Over the years there have been sightings of creatures in swamps and bogs. While it is easy to imagine that you are seeing something at night in one of these places, there seem to be just too many reports to be dismissed out of hand. The sightings are not all at night either. When you think about it, a lot of these places are still unexplored, because they are so hard to penetrate. Our old friend, Bigfoot, also known by his indian name Sasquatch, has been spotted in some of these places, but he has also been spotted in the woods in the North West. If he does exist, who is to say where he prefers to live? If I had to make a guess, I would have to say in the colder climate of the two places, because the reports of his sightings lead us to believe that he is covered with fur. One report states that he is also not very friendly. One man stated that while he was walking in the woods, a Bigfoot jumped out of a tree and pushed him around and continued to do so until he was able to run away. He had become battered and bruised in the process, but aside from this was unharmed. Maybe the Bigfoot was playing?

The Everglades in Florida is said to house a creature that is very tall, about 7 feet and resembles a gorilla. He is said to have red hair and he has been seen by several tourists, while they were touring the swamp. The National Park Service has gotten a good laugh from this, but the indians that live in the area are NOT laughing. Their people have sighted the creature for hundreds of years. Footprints have been found, that are of gigantic proportions, leading people to believe that this is a type of Bigfoot. When a witness was asked to describe what he saw, he stated that it was a creature that resembled a man and walked on two feet, taking long steps. Others described it as a bear, but there is a problem with this, bears don't walk on two feet.

A famous creature is the hairy creature that is said to reside in Boggy Creek, in Arkansas.It is so famous that a movie was made about it. The creature is known as the Fouke monster. The creature got this name because it is said that he was terrorizing the town of Fouke in Arkansas. It is described as being covered in hair and being about 7 feet tall. Did you notice that all the descriptions of the swamp and bog creatures are the same. Is this just coincidence, or does this give us a clue that this type of creature actually exists? It is said that the creature is responsible for killing livestock and harassing families, but it has never killed a human. It seems to prefer cattle and chickens with the occasional dog thrown in. Like Roswell, Fouke has it's gift shops, with its monster themes. This alone makes it hard to swallow the legend, but I guess we shouldn't let it dissuade us from investigating whether a race of Bigfoots live in these types of areas, after all they are pretty secluded and would make a perfect place to hide.

While not a swamp area, a strange creature was observed in a field with a pond. The witnesses were sitting on their porch, when they saw a creature walk down the field. They described it as about the size of a big man and covered with hair. It walked on two feet and had a head that was somewhat reminiscent of a cat. While the cat head business seems a little strange, the rest of the description is again the same as those of a Bigfoot. It seems that this location was near a place called Short Mountain, where there have been many Bigfoot sightings in the past. By the way the sightings took place in Tennessee.

A sighting of a creature was reported in 1974 in Georgia. The witness said that he thought that the creature was headed down from a river that was about seven miles back, but he couldn't be sure. Before I go any further, I have to tell you this, the witnesses were children. I am not sure of their ages, but I suspect that they might have been around 11 or 12 years old. I personally don't think that this makes them any less credible as witnesses. They state that they were playing in a swampy area, when they noticed that all the animal sounds had stopped. They heard a branch snap and instantly got scared. Then they heard a scream, it was from some sort of animal. Something had run by them through the brush and it had been near. They examined the area and found small bare footprints and a very large footprint. This made them suspect that a female Bigfoot with her children had run by. Weeks later they saw a hairy creature, while they were waiting for the school bus. It was about 7 feet tall and thin. It was also a few hundred feet away, thank goodness.

There is a large swamp in Massachusetts that is not that far from Boston. The name of the swamp is Hockomock. Boy these places always seem to have strange names, with a few exceptions of course. The name is Wampanoag Indian and it means, "place where spirits dwell". When the English settlers came here, they named the place Devil's Swamp. Sounds inviting, doesn't it? Artifacts have been found in this swamp that date as far back as 9,000 years. There have been many reports of sightings of a ape like creature that is covered with hair that walks like a man and has a shuffling pattern to his gate. One man was in the woods near the lake when he heard a a crashing sound, as a large ape like creature came out of the woods and passed within a few feet of him, as it went into the water. He said that he was frozen with fear, I bet.

A swamp exists near New Orleans in Louisiana, known as the Honey Island Swamp. Over the years a creature has been sighted there that resembles a tall furry man. The swamp itself, is almost untouched by civilization. It covers over 70,000 acres and it would be quite easy for a creature to hide in it without ever being detected. It also makes a great place for a creature to retreat to, if threatened. Bigfoot tracks have been found coming out of the swamp, but these are always suspect since there are so many hoaxes that use manufactured footprints. The creature is said to walk like a man on two feet.

Can all of these sighting of a Bigfoot creature, that is described in the same way, be all lies? It sure doesn't seem that way, does it? There are still animals that get discovered every year, why couldn't a Bigfoot be one of them. It a Bigfoot does exist, it must be relatively intelligent. Look at the evidence, it only stays in areas that provide good cover, there are no known reports of it ever killing a human, at least none that I know of. This in itself stops it from being hunted, in most cases. Most of the time when it comes near humans, it just ignores them. Some people think that Bigfoot is a missing link and we are related to it in some way. I think that it is some sort of advanced ape and may be more intelligent than any Chimp, Gorilla or Orengatang. The creature, if it exists, is better off staying away from us, for its own sake. If it is too much like us, it is liable to land up in military weapons test being gassed, shot full of germs or being irradiated.
