Here he is in the news again, our friend Bigfoot. No I am not talking about some guy at work that wears size fourteens, I am talking about what many think is a mythical creature that supposedly lives in the woods. I am not an English language major, or anything like that, but have you ever wondered why he wasn't called Bigfeet? Oops I am getting off of the main subject here. It seems that there have been some pretty credible sightings lately, of something that was definitely ape like. The problem with a Bigfoot sighting is that it seems to indicate that the creature is more human like than ape like. For all we know, if this creature does exist, it might be a link between humans and apes. I am writing this article at a time when two men, one a policeman and the other,a former corrections officer, state that they have found the body of a Bigfoot, frozen in the ice somewhere in North Georgia. They have released a photo and DNA from their find, but at this point they refuse to say exactly where they found the body or let anyone see it. They state that the reason for not telling anyone where the Bigfoot body was found is that they had seen other Bigfoots in the area and don't want them to be disturbed. As far as showing the body goes, they belong to a group that has been searching for Bigfoot proof. It seems that they want to protect their find for awhile, until they can get everything in order.

Some people are very skeptical of the photo and information that has been given out so far. These people are screaming, “show me the body!” I guess you can't blame them either, since there have been so many pieces of false Bigfoot evidence over the years. There is quite a record of evidence being manufactured to fool tourists and investigators into buying so called proof of Bigfoot. You can find plaster casts of Bigfoot footprints in many places and much of this stuff was made by hoaxers. Supposedly the dead Bigfoot is 7 feet 7 inches tall and weighs over 500 pounds. If we do get to see the body and it is a genuine Bigfoot, then it is good in one way and bad in another. The good part is that the body can be studied and we can finally see if Bigfoot is truly more manlike than ape or just an ape offshoot. The bad part is that scientists will never be satisfied with just a dead Bigfoot. They will want to go into the Bigfoot habitat to study them or maybe even to bring back live ones. If the Bigfoot do exist, this could be the end of them. Maybe the people that discovered the body, if there is one, should have thought about that, before informing the world of their discovery. I know what you are going to say, how can such a monumental discovery be kept quiet? I have often felt that you have to balance things out in life. If Bigfoot exists, there are probably very few of them, or we would have found them by now. One of the first things that might happen is that hunters will go after them now that the discovery has been announced. I hope this is not the case.

There have been many tales about Bigfoot sightings in the past. There was a so called documentary on the History Channel, perhaps you have seen it? Several men went to a cabin at a lake. The area was deserted for hundreds of miles and they had to get there and back by sea plane. I think they were in Canada. One night someone or something began to throw rocks and sticks at their cabin, of course they became very scared. If I remember correctly one thought that he saw the shadow of a large creature go by the cabin and they felt the cabin shake. Throwing rocks and sticks is typical ape behavior. They left, but before going they put a board of exposed nails in front of the cabin door. When they came back months later, there was dried blood and fur on the board. They sent it away to be analyzed and they were told that it was some sort of unknown creature that had ape like hair. Had they been bothered by a Bigfoot who wanted them out of his territory? It certainly seemed that something wanted rid of them and it was intelligent.

There was an area, a swampy and wooded area, in one of the southern states that supposedly had many Bigfoot footprints around it. People came from far and wide to see them and buy plaster casts of them from the local gift shop. I guess the gift shop was doing pretty good. I remember that there was an interview with the owner and he told the interviewer all about those footprints and how there was so many of them in the area. It looked like a whole tribe of Bigfoots was in the area. To make a long story short, someone discovered a large wooden foot in the shop and it had mud on it. Apparently the store owner had found a way to make a lot of money without much investment. What he had done was go around the lake area stomping this wooden foot into the dirt. At times he would make a plaster mold of the footprint for sale in the store. Now let me see, if you use about 50 cents worth of plaster and then sell the footprint for about 50 dollars, that is a profit of 100 times what the materials cost, and if you can find someone stupid enough to give you even more money, you make even a bigger profit. Is it no wonder why people are so skeptical of anyone that says he has found a Bigfoot?

My favorite Bigfoot story took place about 100 years ago. A guy who was walking through the woods decided to make camp. He was in a blanket or sleeping bag type device, when he said that a big Bigfoot came across him. He says that the Bigfoot picked him up and carried him to an area where there was what he presumed was the family of the Bigfoot. There were young Bigfoots and what he believed was a female Bigfoot. He said that they didn't hurt him and were very curious about him and the male studied his every move. He was allowed to start a fire and he heated up a cup of coffee and drank it. He stated that the Bigfoot decided to grab the coffee pot and drank everything in it, grounds and all. Next he said that he had snuff and took a pinch. He said that he offered some to the Bigfoot who took the entire can of snuff and ate it and began to choke. At this point he made his escape. This is quite a story and if it is true, it shows that Bigfoots are not really a danger to man.

Another Bigfoot article told of a guy that was hiking through the woods in the northwest. He said that he heard a noise, but wasn't sure where it came from. Just a second later the whole woods seemed to explode. Apparently a Bigfoot had been up in a tree and decided to jump down and play with this guy. He said that he was terrified. He said that he began to run and the Bigfoot would catch up to him and shove him and then let him get away again. He went on to say that the Bigfoot even knocked him down a couple of times and that the chase went on for quite a long time. The longer it went on, the more bruised and cut the guy had become. It was not that the Bigfoot did this to him on purpose, but when he fell, or ran through the woods, sticks and branches would cut him up. He said that he thought that he would never get away, but at some point he came across a road with cars on it. The Bigfoot disappeared, I guess that he didn't want to have too many people see him.

I think that most of us remember the video that was taken of an animal presumed to be a Bigfoot that was walking in the woods. It has become the stuff of much speculation. Some ape experts have stated that the animal didn't walk like a human, so they have ruled out that it was someone in an ape suit. Others have stated that neck movements proved it some sort of ape. The video had been analyzed to death. The debate on whether this video shows a Bigfoot, or that one really exists has been raging for years. Let's hope that there really is a Bigfoot body and that science will get a chance to examine it and that if there are any Bigfoots out there, that they have moved to a new territory to avoid detection.
