Strange Creatures In Texas?
Source: Clipart.com Big Foot, Yeti, Abominable Snowman, Sasquatch, these creatures make us think of the high peaks of the Himalayas or the thick, overgrown woods of the northwest, but have you ever thought of Texas when you hear those words? Why would you ever think of Texas when you heard the about large creatures of this type? Maybe because they have been reported there repeatedly for years! The hot spots seems to be Jefferson and Marion County, but Longview is another place where the creature has been continually sighted. These places are ideal places for this this type of creature to hide out because they contain the Cypress Swamp and everyone knows that creatures like to hide out in swamps, just look at any horror flick. There is also thick woods around Longview. The Marion County Census of 1990 showed a population of only 10,000 people, leaving plenty of room for our creature. Jefferson County is located just below Dallas on the map. It is said the creature is a Big Foot and people have sighted it from time to time. Is it dangerous? There seems to be reports that several people could have been killed by it, but there is really no solid evidence such as an eye witness. As a matter of fact the reports of killings are disputed by some of the people in the area. I personally have never seen any other report of a big foot type creature killing anyone.
Photo Source: DOE In 1965 there were many sightings of a giant hairy creatures roaming between Jefferson and Longview. Could these sightings just have been people's overactive imaginations? Lets look into a few of the sightings and see if we think there is any validity to any of them. A man was traveling with his daughter They looked ahead and saw a large black hairy creature. They explicitly stated that it was not a bear. It is said that the bodies of a couple of people were found in the area and that they were torn apart leading the townspeople to suspect that the creature did it and they supposedly formed a posse and hunted for it. It is also said that in an section north of Houston near Lufkin is an area known as the big thicket and the story is that many people have disappeared there. It is thought that the creatures might live in there also. One of the things that really excited Big Foot hunters in the region was the tale of a 13 year old boy who had come running out of the woods screaming that a big hairy creature was chasing him. He said that he was coming home from the house of a friend and that he heard something in the bushes to his right. He said he though it might be his friend and called to him, but there was no answer. He said that he figured when there was no answer it was a small animal in the bushes, so he threw a rock into the bushes and then a second rock. At this point he stated that a large hairy animal or man came loping out of the bushes. When he saw this beast coming at him he said he ran. (I don't blame him) The boy stated that the creature didn't run but was able to keep up with him while walking fast. Eventually the creature stopped following him. The boy was reported to truly be in a state of shock and his feet had blisters all over them. Now I don't know what the boy saw, I am sure he thought it was some kind of monster but in all fairness it could have been someone trying to prank him. He could have seen a homeless person that lived in the woods, who can really tell. You can imagine what someone living in the woods who never shaved and never got a haircut would look like. I am sure it would be enough to scare anyone. So I think the boy was being honest in his own mind. The description was a little strange however. The creature was described as being about seven feet tall and covered with hair except for the face, the palms of it's hands and it's stomach. The sheriff found no clues anywhere after the incident but the editor of the local newspaper is said to have found one footprint that was about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide along with two piles of neatly ironed clothes. The event with the boy touched off a monster hunt and strangers began to come to the town thinking that they could search out big foot, but no one has. |
