Strange Discoveries and Strange Objects

Did you ever notice how certain things fit a pattern? For example you wouldn't expect to find ice in the dessert, cities in the Arctic or Elephants living in a cave. That is just the way thing are, or is it?

A large prehistoric cave was found in China. This in itself is not that unusual, but what makes it unique is the fact that apparently the cave was home to many large elephant type animals. Animals like elephants living in caves, very unusual. Did they wonder in or were they chased in by predictors? Archaeologists think that it is unlikely that they wondered in. If they were chased in their bones would have shown the effects of being bitten, but they don't. Apparently these animals may have lived a happy and normal life inside the cave. The cave was also home to rhinoceros and Stegodon. To make the find even more puzzling, rhinoceros of every age were represented which eliminates the theory that just young rhinos wandered into the cave.

Did you ever wonder why everything in the solar system orbits something else? Most people never think about this, but its true. Planets orbit the sun, moons orbit the planets that are orbiting the sun, comets orbit the sun. Everything is so orderly. It seems the universe doesn't like things out of place, but wait, we have just found out that there may be rouge planets traveling through space. If there are rogue planets, will rouge stars be found and what else is hurtling around out there? Actually they have been, brown dwarfs have been found wandering on their own. Scientists have been arguing over the difference between brown dwarfs and planets for quite a while. A brown dwarf star was found very close to a star, only 14 A.U. away. An A.U. is an astronomical Unit which is represented by the distance between the Earth and the Sun. To find such a huge object (55 to 78 times the size of Jupiter) seems impossible because it should upset the balance of things due to its huge gravity. Saturn is 10 A.U. from the Sun. This discovery will make scientists have to rethink current universal formation theories.

The Baghdad battery is another one of those objects that seems impossible to exist. Its almost like finding a computer in a 17th century dig. First of all the implications are that people had a knowledge of electricity more than 2,000 years ago. There are people that actually do believe this and they point to some ancient Egyptian paintings, that they say, show Egyptians holding what looks like some sort of electrical device. The Baghdad battery is a clay pot with a copper cylinder in it. The cylinder was soldered in with solder that has the same formula as today's solder. The bottom of the pot was covered with a copper disk and sealed with bitumen or asphalt. There was another insulating layer of asphalt sealing the top and this also held an iron rod suspended into the center of the copper cylinder. The rod had been in acid. This is not the only battery found. Electroplating of silver was seems to have been know also. We are talking about Sumeria in 2500 BC.

On to the famous case of the lost vase. Scientific American Magazine carried a story in 1851 (Vol 7, Pg 298) about an incredible discovery. In Dorchester, Massachusetts a large rock way dynamited and a vase came out in two pieces. The rock was over 100,000 years old. The vase had a bell shape and was 4.5 inches high, 6.5 inches in diameter at the base and 2.5 inches in diameter at the top. It was approximately 1/8 inch thick. But this vase was not clay but metal. It was made of zinc and silver. It had silver inlaid all over it in the form of a floral pattern. A wreath was inlaid around the bottom. It is too bad, but somehow, this vase disappeared. It had traveled from museum to museum as a great curiosity. Could it be in storage somewhere? Let's hope so.

A strange coin was discovered while men were looking for water in 1870. It had been brought up from over a hundred feet down. The coin had strange glyphs and figures on it. The coin was not stamped out but etched extremely finely with some sort of acid. On one side a woman wearing a crown had her hand raised and on the other side is some sort of crouching animal. Glyphs are around the edge of the coin and might have been a sort of writing. The coin was given to the Geological Section of the American Association in Buffalo. This was much speculation but no answers. It was agreed that the coin had been put through some sort of a milling machine. The etching process was more advanced than the process we use today for coins. This coin had come from depths in the earth that were between 100,000 to 150,000 old. This begs the question, were there civilizations on earth that were more advanced than ours and if so what happened to them?

Finding things in stone always peaks my curiosity. in 1865 some workmen discovered an oxidized screw. Wow you think, who cares? But there is more to this story, I bet you knew that? The screw was inside a piece of stone, feldspar to be exact and that feldspar was estimated to be, you had better sit down, 21 million years old. Now we have to re ask our question about the earth having civilizations way, way before us. If a race of people was this advanced 21 million years ago, they could have left this planet and we would have never known. Are there ruins on Mars and could WE have built there? You never know. We made such a big deal about going to the moon but maybe we have gone to other star systems and don't know it.

There is a article in Pravda_RU dated 05/12/04 that states that the U.S. was conducting war games off the coast of Puerto Rico in 1961 but had to stop when one of their subs started to chase an unknown object. The object hit speeds of 150 knots which is a little over 170 mph. A sub can only hit about 45 knots which is 51 mph. The sub didn't have any chance of catching it. Some scientists quietly believe that there may be an advanced civilization on earth under the ocean depths.

So you see there is much that can not be explained on this planet of ours. Sure maybe we can figure what an object is or what it does but trying to figure out how it got there, that is another problem.
