The Moon, that beautiful heavenly body that hangs over our head, has filled people with awe for thousands of years. When then President Kennedy announced an initiative to land on the Moon, most people didn't believe that we would be able to do it. Indeed many today believe we didn't do it and the whole thing was a hoax. I am not going to go into the moon hoax theory again, there is much evidence both ways and several articles on this site, but what I would like to do here is talk about the little know facts that scientists claim they found out about the moon from our landings on it. Moon One of the things that always puzzled me and indeed many others, was the results of experiments from Apollo 12 and Apollo 13. The crew of Apollo 12 had sent the lunar module ascent stage crashing back into the moon as did the crew of Apollo 13. This seismic event was measured and it was shown that when the module from Apollo 12 hit the surface, the moon vibrated for over 1 hour. As astounding as this sounds, when the module from Apollo 13 hit the surface of the moon, the moon vibrated for over 3 hours. How can this be? I am sure there are many explanations that can be put forward but I have to think the most likely ones are that the moon is hollow or that the moon is artificial and hollow. Could it be that the hollow planets theory is correct and the moon is a prime example? Taking this a step further, if the moon is hollow, is there something inside of it? I am not talking about a core since we are assuming not, but I am talking about structures of some sort? This gives one much food for thought. Carl Sagan, the famous astronomer, stated that a natural satellite can not be hollow. Different measurements of the density of the moon by various scientists have show that if the moon isn't hollow then there may be a huge cavity inside it. Personally I hardly see the difference between a hugh cavity and a hollow body. Back to the thought of structures inside the moon. It is said that dense areas have been detected below the surface of the moon. These areas are said to be circular and extend anywhere from 20 miles down to about 50 miles. What are they? We never hear NASA talking about this do we? All of us have seen the dust on the moon. As the astronauts walked they kicked it up as did the that little moon buggy they sometimes rode in. We have all been taught that as rocks erode this usually causes the sand, dirt and dust around them, but the moon has no atmosphere, no weather, so how do the rocks erode? Apparently the dust doesn't come from the rocks at all. The composition of the dust was tested and found to be remarkably different from the rocks. So where did all this dust come from? Ah, that is the 64 million dollar question. Was the dust there first and are the rocks from meteors that hit the moon. I am not a scientist but I believe that would make the rocks very different from each other, which they don't seem to be. Some of the rocks were magnetized but how did they get this way since the moon has no magnetic field? The moon does seem to have small local magnetic fields though and whether these are caused by large rocks or effect the rocks is something to ponder. This business with the rocks and dust seems to raise more questions than answers. Some scientists think that the local magnetic fields could have come from the extreme pressure caused by large asteroid collisions but yet others still think the moon had a liquid metal core that generated a magnetic field. Moon Rock I wonder if anyone remembers what a hard time the astronauts had when they tried to drill into the moon's crust? The reason for this turns out to be the fact that the crust has a mineral in it that contains titanium, an extremely hard metal. Titanium would be perfect for creating an artificial satellite since it has properties that make if very strong. There are certain elements that are not found in nature but yet we found a couple of them on the moon. They were Uranium 236 and neptunium 237, which were found in the moon rocks themselves. A probe called Clementine was used to study the makeup of the moon and we were given data that seems at odds with the titanium bearing mineral covering the moon. We were told that "the Moon’s crust is indeed made of a low-iron, low-density rock called anorthosite " What facts are right are what facts are not facts at all? As with so many things that NASA is involved with, we are left with confusing statements. Remember the face on Mars? Anyone who is familiar with those facts knows what I am talking about. It is said that instruments placed on the moon by the astronauts detected a cloud of water vapor passing overhead. The cloud was said to cover over 100 square miles and last for over 14 hours. Where could a cloud of water vapor come from on the moon, especially one this huge? Is there some process happening there that we know nothing about? If this cloud was 100 square miles, why wasn't it detected by telescopes on earth? It is also said that an eruption of some sort of gas like material was photographed by a Russian astronomer from the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. He captured it coming from a spot near the crater Alphonsus along with a reddish glow. Men On The Moon Isaac Asimov, the great science fiction writer, when questioned why the moon fits precisely over the sun during an eclipse replied, "There is no astronomical reason why the moon and the sun should fit so well. It is the sheerest of coincidences, and only the Earth among all the planets is blessed in this fashion." Why is the moon so perfectly placed in distance from the Earth in an almost perfect circular orbit? What is causing all those moon quakes? There doesn't seem to be any more volcanic activity there. When we look at the moon are we really seeing the ship that brought our ancestors here many tens of thousands, or maybe even millions, of years ago? |
