Mars Landers
Picture and video source: NASA
It seems that we learn more about Mars every day. Just a couple of months ago, Mars was at its closest point to Earth in thousands of years. NASA has sent a few probes there that have taken literally thousands of pictures and we have found a few mysteries on Mars also. There is the well known 'face' that looked like a Mt. Rushmore sculpture which NASA now says was a trick of light and shadows and to prove it produced another picture of the 'face' that it said was taken which a better lens. Of course the picture shows the 'face' as an eroded hilltop but under examination it was shown that the picture had much of the photo information left out. Then there is the pyramids and the ruins, all of which appear in the Cydonia region. There is a lot to make us wonder. Here are some NASA videos of Mars along with some very nice shots of different areas of the planet. It is necessary to have a Quicktime Movie Player and a Windows Media Player to view the movies, if you don't have them you can download them HERE FOR FREE. Please be patient with the loading of the movies, it is slow, especially on the larger files.
Some of these movies from NASA may contain outdated data which we now know is incorrect, such as the reference to water on Mars.
Over time all the different Mars missions have returned some fantastic photographs. Here are some of the Mars photographs that were returned. Here are some of the more bizarre photos, the titles are the nicknames that they have gotten over the years:
My favorite has to be Smiley. A lot of people don't agree with NASA on some of these pictures, for example some believe that the Inca City is really a city ruin and that the pictures presented here were posted to deceive. These ideas can be traced back to the 'face'. Mars has many valleys and canyons. Here are a few: Lets take a look at the landing areas for the Vikings and Pathfinder landers that were sent to Mars: (View Historical Missions Log)
Here is a schematic of the Mars Exploration Rover: Here is what the Rover looks like as it is descending onto mars: I am sure that NASA and the rest of the world will not be able to resist Mars. We haven't seen the last of the Mars landers and we know there are several orbiters scheduled for a voyage to Mars. It will be exciting indeed when man finally set foot on the red planet. |
