Recently the subject of other dimensions has come up again. This is a subject that I find truly fascinating. The reason for this is, that we are in a part of our history where we suspect the existence of other dimensions and science has calculated that they indeed do exist. I'd like to approach this subject on a more practical note, one that explores what might be in the different dimensions, if indeed they do exist. It could turn out that the world is a completely different place than what we suspect it is. If this is true, then we have egg on our faces. I mean, we think that we know most of the reasons for why things happen and we think that life is very simple in some ways. We believe that we are born we grow, we age and we die, but this might not be the case at all. Oh sure we are born there is no doubt about that, we do grow we do age, but do we really die?

Energy can never be destroyed, in other words, this is a scientific fact. It can be changed and used, but never destroyed. Think about this for a second, we all have a certain amount of energy in our bodies. After all, our brains and nerves run electrical energy. Some people believe that there is a dimension where all energy ultimately makes its way to and ends up. If they could tap into this energy they would have energy in unlimited form. When we die, could this be the that our souls go to? After all it may turn out that what we think of as a soul is merely the total sum of our body's energy. If these people are right and this dimension does contain energy and we tap into it, would we be using the energy that also came from people, to power our various appliances? This is sort of a bizarre thought isn't it? You might wind up with something like a haunted toaster for example. I am just kidding of course, but this does illustrate the point of what I am saying nevertheless.

Another dimension that science is now saying probably exists, is the dimension of time. Some now think that time is a stream and depending on where you get into the stream, that is the period of time that you will be in. Even more strange than that, some scientists believe that it might be possible for two different time streams to meet. Could you imagine having two different kinds of time or even more in one area? You have to wonder what the results of that with be? I don't even think I would be able to picture a place that would have this kind of time going on. If I could though, I just might picture an area where people were living twice. They might be living in the past on one part of their planet, which is in the time dimension and also be living in the future on another part of their planet. Perhaps they are even living in two different time periods in the same spot? If this ever turned out to be true, it could indicate that this could even be the case with us and we don't know it. Wouldn't that really be strange? When you think about it, time is actually a very strange thing. People used to think that time traveled in a straight line. What I mean is that all the events of your life happened one after the other and there was nothing anybody can do about it. Today we know better, we' have gotten those little peeks into how time really works and they have excited our imaginations. An example of this was, when we found out that time slows down the faster you go, so that if a person could be put into a spaceship traveling faster than we go on this planet, time inside the ship would slow and their aging would slowdown. Depending on their speed, it would even be possible for them to hardly age at all while the rest of us grow older and died.

When you talk about quantum physics and things like string theory, you also have to talk about the existence of many other dimensions for this stuff to work. It is said that we are not even able to conceive of what some of these dimensions might be and that is probably very true. Let's sit back for a second and try and think of another dimension that has only one more attribute than our own. Let's say that this attribute is called X. We know that on Earth we have three dimensions, length, width and height. If something has all three of these dimensions, it is known as three-dimensional or 3D. When we look at a 3D movie, it makes us feel we are actually experiencing our 3D world, even though the movie itself does not have three dimensions, it is just fooling us into thinking that it does. Now let's go to our mythical place that has a fourth dimension called X. What might this fourth dimension actually be? For the sake of this exercise lets say that X represents something akin to a black hole. We go into our three-dimensional building in this dimension and immediately we get crushed by the sheer force of gravity. Our fourth dimension seems to contain a sporadic, powerful, gravity wave. Yet we noticed that there are other creatures living in this dimension who seemed to be totally unfazed by the extra element. Could this ever be possible? I think that we have to say that at this point, that extra dimensions do exist and anything is possible.

One question that seems to be relevant, is could we have other dimensions on our own world and not even realize it? This may be quite possible, because we may not be capable of observing other dimensions. We just may not be physically equipped for this, just as other creatures who might be in those other dimensions may not realize our existence. At this very moment, we could be sharing the same exact space with many other creatures whose makeup prevents us from even knowing they are there. This gives you a kind of creepy feeling, doesn't it? Can you imagine if we were sharing our world would billions and billions of other types of creatures from other dimensions, maybe some of whom are intelligent, and whose existence we don't even suspect? The problem is that in some areas, the human brain cannot conceive of certain things, but our computers can. It may turn out that the computer age will not only be responsible for lightning fast calculations and balancing bank books or playing games, it may turn out that it will have made it possible for us to discover other life forms right here on our own world.

What Will Other Dimensions Look Like?

Could all these other dimensions turn out to be part of some master dimension somewhere and that dimension be nothing more than a part of a bigger one and so on? We really don't know the answer to these things, because we truly don't understand how the universe even works yet. Every year, more and more discoveries are being made about our universe and maybe one day, somehow a new dimension will reveal itself. Maybe it will be one that will allow us to travel from one end of the universe to the other in a split second, who knows? Science is talking about wormholes and bending space and things like that, so this is not such a far out thought after all. If these wormholes do actually exist, then they themselves may be doorways to other dimensions. It may take going into another dimension to bend space and since they are talking about these things already, they must have an inkling that this might be practical.

We just may not recognize the world of tomorrow, it may be more alien to us than even an alien planet. There might be devices around that will allow people to transport themselves anywhere they want to go instantly. They might be able do this by utilizing the portals to another dimension. People might even be able to go back and correct the mistakes they made in their lives by traveling back through the time dimension. This may not be allowed however, since it could change the history of the human race. Going forward in time would not have to be controlled as severely. I certainly don't know how many dimensions will be found, or if we will even be able to realize they are there, or only visualize them through mathematics? This might not really matter as long as we learn how to harness the power of these dimensions, but first we have to make sure that we are not harming any inhabitants that might be there. This whole field is very fascinating and I would love to be a fly on the wall 200 years from now, but I guess that is just not going to happen, because I might just land up in the energy dimension long before that..
