It is very rare when you are able to get a program for free that works so well that you just don't need any commercial versions. Free Download Manager is a downloader and accelerator, but it is much more. Before you download a file, it gives you an option to check with others to see what they have to say about this download. If the file is dangerous, you have a much better chance of finding that out before the download, unless you are the first to download it. In that case, you can let others know what you think of it. The download is only 1.6 megs, but don't let that fool you. This program is capable of many things and it ties into Microsoft Explorer and Firefox among other popular browsers. It is a very easy install. So what can this software do?

For one thing, if you get disconnected during a download, it will resume where it left off when you connect again, so you don't have to start the download over again. This is a great feature. You can download entire websites, if you choose, or one file. You can even schedule downloads so you don't even have to be at your computer. Leave those big downloads for the middle of the night. It will give you the choice of how many connections you want, so you can get speedy downloads. When it downloads it can use HTTP, FTP or HTTPS. It is capable of searching for mirror sites for the same file in case it won't download from the home site. It can also download a file by clicking on it.

One thing that I like about it is that it has a choice of speeds. What this really means is that your browser speed isn't effected by downloads if you select lite speed. The three choices for speed are lite, medium or heavy. I use a dual core machine and selecting heavy doesn't bother my browser's speed. We usually call this priority when selecting it on other programs. There are all sorts or options you can set. For example you can limit file size, how many times the program will try and connect, timeouts, and even more. I used this program to download movies, it was legal, they were in the public domain, and it worked like a charm on those large files.

Do you need a record of what you downloaded and where you went? No problem, there is a log that can be kept. Here is the kicker, it is used by many huge companies, who pay for the option of putting their name and logo into it.
