Stonehenge Have you ever noticed that some places are said to have a mystical power about them and attract a lot of people? When you look at some of these places they certainly don't look like anything special, while others may have ancient structures and date back somewhere in the fog of time. Not all of these places may look like they did thousands of years ago. One that comes to mind is Stonehenge. Stonehenge was reconstructed to look like what we THOUGHT it looked like originally. Rocks were put in places that we thought they were in initially. Does this have any effect on our feelings for the site? I would say yes, but most people don't know about this anymore, since it is no longer mentioned in the brochures that you get at the site. The site certainly looks marvelous and attracts many hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Avebury is another stone circle that is located only 20 miles from Stonehenge. If you are looking for a structure that is in it's original state, forget both Avebury and Stonehenge. This circle is gigantic, many times the size of Stonehenge. The problem here is that some of the original stones were destroyed and many of the others buried. It wasn't until the 1920s that the land was purchased by Alexander Keiller a rich Scotsman. He than began to dig and uncover the great stones and put them where HE thought that they were in their original positions. All is not bad however, while you can not touch anything at Stonehenge because you are kept about 50 feet from the megalith, at Avebury you are allowed to walk among the stones and touch anything you want. Some people believe that the stones at Avebury possess energy and they are there to try and get some of it. Avebury dates back to about 4,000 B.C. which makes it about 400 years older than Stonehenge. I guess you realize by now that I am not a big fan of reconstructing ancient monuments. Sure I would like to see how they looked at the time they were built, but we can use computer graphics and models for this. Why take something and shape it to what you think it looked like, you could be wrong. I would just hate to walk through a structure reconstructed in a certain way because the chief archeologist thought that this was PROBABLY the way it looked when it was first built. It sort of ruins the magic for me. I would much rather see the ruins and try and envision the structure for myself. This may not be the way most people feel and is a personal thing for me. I just keep thinking of the dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History that had the wrong heads on them for over 30 years before someone realized it. All those thousands and hundreds of thousands of people that saw them at that time received wrong information and to this day, some of the people might not realize it. The circle at Avebury is so large that a town exists inside it, including a pub named the Red Lion which has had many ghostly activities over the years. Crop circles have also appeared nearby for many years. With all this going on you would think nothing else could be happening, but there are also numerous reports of ufos. There is a building in India that was built in the 8th century that is incredible. It is not only because it is one of the largest buildings in the world, but because of how it was constructed. It was carved from the top of a mountain using chisels and took over 100 years to complete. This building is a temple. Legend states that this fantastic building was built by people that came out of the sky in their flying machines. There are floor plans for the building and they show religious designs representing the universe. The building is the Kailasa Temple. Is this building truly alien or are we looking at a building that was constructed with tiny chisels and hammers on one of the grandest scales imaginable? Uluru Australia is the home of one of the biggest sacred objects in the world. Oh it might look like a gigantic rock to you, but Uluru is very sacred to the Aboriginal people. It is dedicated to a god who's images are painted in the caves of Uluru. Strangely the god looks like a helmeted space traveler. Uluru is located in Uluru-Kata National Park. It was named Ayers Rock in 1873 by a surveyor. Maybe the reason the rock became sacred to the local people is the fact that it will change color during different times of the day due to the different minerals that make it up. It is thought that human existence in the area may extend back more than 10,000 years. There are many legends concerning the rock, most have to do with battles and magic. Over 40 people have died climbing the rock. Their hearts gave out from the tough climb. It is said that if you take a stone from the area you will suffer misfortune. Many people visit Uluru and hope to gain magical energy from their surroundings. There is a place in Oregon that is said to have a mysterious Vortex. Guess what it is called? It is the House of Mystery. An assay office was built and it slid down a hill and today that is the house. Inside the house things happen that seem to defy gravity and the natural laws of science. The native Americans called this area of Oregon forbidden ground. and this was well before the House of Mystery was ever built. With the house in the background two people of the same height appear to be of much different heights in a photograph. When the background is taken out, the height difference still appears. People that are inside the house sometimes look like they are standing at a 45 degree angle when they are really standing up straight. It is said that a vortex exists in this area that has mysterious powers and is powerful enough to change the laws of nature. The Earth is full of mysteries and strange places and some are not very easily explained. Are there alien powers at work here? What do you think? |
