Amazing People
Did you ever see a seemingly impossible event? You say that you haven't? You are probably wrong. If you are a movie goer, you have seen them on the big screen more than once. Even if you only watch tv, I am sure you have seen them on the small screen as it is referred to. Sure in the cases I am talking of, they were fiction, but fiction that was carried out so well graphically, that they looked real. Ah here is the big question, did you ever see an event that looked impossible that was carried out in real life? Did I hear some say yes and that David Copperfield did it? That doesn't count because it is what is known as tomfoolery. Tomfoolery doesn't count because it is designed to make you think that something happened that didn't. When you think about it, I guess a hole in one in golf, would seem impossible before it happens. Irish Golf Course In June 2006, golfer Chris Tugwell was feeling lucky and then he made a hole in one, this was every golfers dream. He said he had been waiting ten years for this event and was hoping that it would happen at least once in his life and it did. Then as he was playing the same round, he put in another hole in one. The odds have been calculated to be about 67,000,000 to 1 for getting 2 holes in one in the same game. He had made his first hole in one on the 7th hole which was 157 yards and then amazingly, again on the 12th hole which is 168 yards. After that experience, he ran out and bought a lottery ticket, unfortunately Mr. Tugwell's luck had run out. I had two holes in one game once but it was in miniature golf and the other fellow beat me, he had three holes in one. To end this topic I have to say they the most holes in one were scored by Norman Manley of California who actually made 59. Climbing Mt. Everest is one of the hardest feats a human can perform. Many have died trying and the mountain is littered with corpses of those that died trying and were too hard to bring back down. When you reach a certain elevation it is necessary to use oxygen tanks so you don't pass out from lack of oxygen. Any problems and you are sent back down the mountain so as not to endanger the rest of the climbing party. Enter Goran Kropp. One day he decided that he would like to climb Mt. Everest. So he did what anyone would do, he got on his bike and peddled from Sweden to the mountain. Why not, it was only 7,000 miles and he wasn't in a hurry? He saw nothing wrong with this, just as he saw nothing wrong with going to the top by himself and not using any oxygen. He was the first to accomplish this feat. The man must have had lungs twice the normal size from all that bike riding. This guy never even used a Sherpa and brought no food from the mess hall. He lugged all his own gear and guess what he did when he was finished? He got on his bike of course and peddled home. One of the strangest things that we see from time to time if fire walking. Believers state that if you believe that you can walk on hot coals and you will be able to do it without being burned. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? I used to think that too, but there have been too many times that people have been examined before doing it and have succeeded. I remember one time when over 5,000 people did it and only two got their feet burned, I guess they didn't truly believe. What is the secret to this event? Scientists have been trying to find out for years, but skeptics still don't believe it is possible. There is even a Fire walking school, named the Fire Walking. Institute of Research and Education which is F.I.R.E. for short. To visit the website just paste this address in your browser without the period on the end, firewalking.com. I would like to add this, there are- probably several methods that would allow you to walk on hot coals and I bet some of them have nothing to do with faith. Submarine The submarine had been his home for the last several months, it had made it in and out of enemy waters, during the cold war, without a scratch and everyone on board had great confidence in her captain and crew. The long tour of duty was over and they were returning home for some well deserved shore leave. The year was 1950 and the men couldn't wait to get home. As the boat was getting nearer to home, one of the men was asked to bring something to the captain of the boat and went up to the conning tower with it. He could hear a ship approaching and then he heard the terrible sound of metal bending and splitting, the boat had been hit by a ship and sent to the bottom some 80 feet below. He managed to pry himself out of the wreckage and got to the surface of the freezing water. He was also able to stay afloat, and conscious in the cold water, until he was rescued over an hour later. Usually water this cold will kill a man very fast, certainly in much less than an hour and yet he was still alive. Audie Murphy was a famous actor, but he got the chance to act because he was the biggest hero of World War II. He was the most decorated U.S. combat soldier. He had received 33 medals, including the Medal of Honor, this countries' highest award. He had tried to enlist in several different branches of the armed forces when he was 17 years old, but none would have him except the U.S. Army. Murphy was an excellent combat solder. He had been shooting rifles since he was a child and was a great shot. Some German troops made believe they were surrendering and killed Murphy's best friend. He got so angry he single handedly wiped our a machine gun nest and used it to wipe out surrounding nests. Another time he stood atop a burning tank alone and used a 50 cal. machine gun to rake oncoming German forces. He then organized a few men that came up around him and counter attacked and received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his work. Many believe that he was responsible for killing hundreds of the enemy and even though he stood out in front of waves of enemy solders, he still lived to tell about it. It seems that there is always someone that has such amazing physical spirit that there is nothing that can stop them. Just when you think that something is impossible they do it with such simplicity, such as Kropp, when he climbed Mt. Everest, that you begin to wonder if it is really that hard to do. Well believe me, it is very hard to climb Mt. Everest. As far as Audie Murphy goes, he was one in a million, maybe even one in a hundred million. Sometimes the thing that is accomplished is not dangerous, other times it is one of the most dangerous things that we can do. Humans are just amazing, aren't they? |
