Ghosts On Planes

When we talk about the paranormal, most of us think of ghosts or spirits. Along with this, we usually picture a decrepit old house or castle surrounded by a fog, with wolves howling in the distance and spirits roaming the grounds. I wonder why it is, that when we talk about ghosts and the paranormal we usually only think of two types of places that are haunted, or should I say supposedly haunted? These places are usually a residence of some sort or a cemetery. Because of this, I decided to do a little investigating to see if I could come up with any other location that we usually don't think of when we think of ghosts. I found one and guess what? This is a location that moves. No it is not a ship or some sort of floating island or even an iceberg. I was very surprised to find that there are accusations of airplanes being haunted. To me, this makes some paranormal events even stranger. There is just something about the fact that people claim that an airplane is haunted that adds another layer to the event.

The first story thatI will tell you comes from an airline employee who will remain anonymous. He had been told that one of the planes in the commercial fleet was haunted and he stated, that at the time he couldn't help but laughing. His opinion about this was to change radically as time went by. One of the first things that he did was inquire into the number of the plane that he was informed about. This is when he started to get upset. He realized that this particular plane always had trouble landing and taking off. The problems were always different and there was never an explanation for them. He was told that one day, when the plane was on its final approach to one of the big airports, the intercom phone rang. What was strange about this was at this point in the flight, all the flight attendants were together and that would have meant that a passenger was on there. The attendants looked at the area where the call was coming from and nobody was there. One of the attendants decided to pick the phone up and heard a woman's voice saying "Help me I am cold". At this point several of the attendants ran to where the call was coming from, but again no one was there. The attendant that had answered the phone was quite startled. One day when the anonymous airline employee realized that the plane we are talking about was scheduled to take off from his airport, he decided to go down and enter the plane. He got on the plane and checked all of the areas where anybody could be in and found no one. The crew noticed him and asked him what he was doing and he made the mistake of telling them, which upset them to no end, except for the pilot and copilot who almost laughed themselves silly. When the plane was in the air, the call came over the intercom again and this time the pilot and copilot heard it. It is said that the incidents continued for several flights and that the plane was sent to maintenance, where some parts were replaced. Why would parts be replaced? Well it seems that some parts had been taken off of another plane that crashed where everybody was killed on board. This included flight attendants, who routinely use the intercom system. I bet that this story sent a chill down some of the spines out there.

Type Of Racing And Stunt Plane

Deke Slayton was a famous astronaut. He had been part of the 1975 American and Russian Apollo Soyuz mission. He enjoyed piloting racing planes and he died doing what he loved. His date of death is very important for reasons that will be obvious to you. He died at home at 3:22 a.m. on June 13, 1993 and this was witnessed by his wife and daughter. Now here is where things get really strange. The plane that he loved to race turned up in the sky above John Wayne Airport in California on June 13, 1993 at 7:57 a.m.. Even though he died in Texas and there is a time difference, there is no way that he could have been piloting the plane, since he was already deceased. Well I guess by now it must be obvious that you think that somebody else was at the controls? I know that I would have to think that this was the obvious explanation, since the plane wouldn't be flying itself. There is a problem with this idea however. The problem is one that is insurmountable. His plane was very distinct and had huge numbers painted on the fuselage. It was also a very noisy play which made many people look up as it flew and many of them noted the registration and type of plane. The Federal Aviation Administration sent a letter of citation against the registered owner and pilot of the plane stating that the noise level was above the allowed amounts. The family upon receiving this letter immediately contacted the FAA and told them several interesting facts. The first one of course was that Slayton could not have been piloting the plane since he had died before the incident. Another interesting fact was that the plane had been put into an aircraft museum in Nevada, before the date of the fly over and the engine had been removed. The plane had been seen taking off from the airport, but the FAA was informed that the plane never had an electric starter and therefore it required somebody on the outside of the plane to help get it going. The many witnesses that had seen the plane were interrogated many times by different agencies and local pilots, none of them wavered in the identification of the plane. The plane performed maneuvers over the airport that day and climbed suddenly into the clouds and was never seen again.

There are several tales of airplanes becoming haunted when somebody committed suicide in one of their bathrooms. The particular one that I am going to talk about was flying around Australia at the time. The story goes on to say that the crew did everything to try and avoid the passages from finding a dead body in the bedroom. A strange thing would happen every time that this plane made a landing, the smoke alarm in the bathroom would go off. It had been looked at many times and replaced, but still it would go off on landings. When the original crew was reassigned to that particular plane months later, they performed a sort of exorcism in the bathroom to appease any spirits that might be in there. This was done using traditional Korean liquor, since the plane was owned by Korean air lines. Needless to say that had no effect. On one flight there were only two people in the first-class area which was directly across from that particular bathroom, there was an ordinary passenger and a Buddhist monk, who claimed that he could feel dead people on the flight. He had no prior knowledge that a suicide had been committed in the bathroom, that he was sitting directly across from. It is said that a flight attendant, who was resting on a cot in an area reserved for the personnel of the plane, saw a hand sticking out of the wall, right next to his sleeping area when when he woke up. It has gotten to the point that when crew members are told that they have to work this particular plane, they complain to the company and ask to be rescheduled.

It seems that Britain also has a haunted plane in their commercial fleet. I won't go into the number of the plane, but I will tell you this much. it is said that a particular plane crew was out partying before they got on that plane. One of that crew had drank so much that he just had to lay down when he got on. There is an area on this plane, as in most commercial planes, where members of the crew can catch a few winks. This particular crew member was said to have laid down and never gotten up again. He had died in his bunk. This is the spirit that most believe inhabits this particular plane. It is said that people who go on this plane alone, have reported hearing humming and tapping. Some people have reported that they have moved switches and levers, only to have them go back to their original position by themselves. One worker who was working underneath the plane while it was empty, reported seeing a figure through an open bottom hatch, open and close a bathroom door and also stated that he could hear someone walking around above him. He said that it sounded like somebody that was wearing boots.

Helicopter

The last plane that I want to talk about is actually a helicopter. I know, this sounds ridiculous, but many people believe it to be true. A haunting is taking place in an aircraft museum in the UK. The helicopter is a Westland Whirlwind and has been in a museum for over 15 years. One volunteer worker stated, "this is the most haunted aircraft we have here". I can't help but think out loud with this one, how many haunted aircraft do these guys have? One of the workers who has been restoring the helicopter says that he has had some very scary moments. You may wonder, how does a haunted helicopter manifest itself? In this case, bolts washes and all types of small connectors keep loosening up and the helicopter itself is seen rocking from side to side. The person who is restoring it states that it is not just a gentle rock which could be caused by vibrations, sometimes it rocks violently. He went on to state that when it first happened, they thought that somebody was inside of the machine, but upon checking there was no one there. He goes on to say that he gets a strange feeling when he works on the helicopter and sometimes he feels taps on the shoulder, as if someone is behind him and trying to get his attention. This particular helicopter had a long history which included search and rescue. Some of the people that it had rescued, had died while aboard the machine. These are the spirits that are believed to haunt this particular helicopter. The restorer believes that the spirits of the dead do not want the helicopter restored, they just wanted to be left alone. Others believe that it may not be that helicopter that is haunted and that it may be this site that the museum is on. One of the things that they base this on is the fact that they have an old windup telephone in the museum that seems to ring on its own, while not being connected to anything. A man has been spotted from time to time wearing, what is known as a Sam Brown uniform, which is the type of uniform that was worn by personnel who were stationed at the base that the museum now occupies.

Well so much for this strange topic. I bet most of you have never even heard of haunted airplanes? Want to take a flight anyone?
