People have believed in ghosts and spirits for as long as the collective memory of man can remember. Perhaps they have believed in them as long as they have believed in God. As we get more advanced as a race, it would seem that we wouldn’t keep this belief, but we still do, to a certain extent. Oh there are people out there that swear that they don’t believe, yet if you were to put some of them in a place that has a spooky setting and ask them to stay there in the dark overnight, many of these people would balk at the thought, why? If they don’t believe in ghosts why would they be scared? Perhaps the belief in ghosts is so deeply ingrained in our culture and everyone else's that it is hard to get rid of. It may not appear on the surface as a widespread belief, but it exists hiding in the dark recesses of our minds. When we seen a shadow in a dark room or glance something out of the side of our in the middle of the night, we can’t help but wonder if it was something out worldly.

There are so many things that we don’t know about yet, in this life. Some people have some strange claims about ghosts. Open person who was a paranormal investigator stated that ghosts are more afraid of us, than we are of them. I have no way of knowing this of course and I can’t even say for certain that there are such things as ghosts. What we commonly think of as a ghost, might just be something else that we haven’t discovered yet. There is a theory that ghosts are nothing more than the manifestation of energy from a person who is observing them. Apparent the theory states that this person has no idea that he or she is giving off this energy. So when you hear the term figment of your imagination, it could be true in a sense, only that figment could be taking some physical form. We are still exploring the wonders of the human mind today and are not fully knowledgeable about its capabilities. We do know that with the aid of a computer, the mind can actually control things. What if some people don’t need the computer to do this, but are unaware that they have this power? Is this so far fetched?

I heard about a paranormal investigator asking the question, ”do ghosts travel through time?” I must say that this is a very interesting question that I have never really thought about. Lets just say for the sake of this article that ghosts do exist. Could one have come from some ancient time in the past and sort of popped in on us in this century? First of all, how would we ever know? Why would a ghost even want to do this, could he or she be looking for relief in a future century, hoping that technology had advance sufficiently to solve their problem? Could the time travel be involuntary? I don’t know about this one. I think that if ghosts do exist, that they would be bound by the same time constraints as we are, since they would be some sort of energy existing at the same time as we do. The only difference being that energy always remains and is immortal in a way. What would create a ghost anyway? Does the human body contain some form of energy in the form of a spirit? Many religions tell us that the spirit actually exists so lets say it does. What exactly is it made of? Could it be an energy that really makes us what we are? What if this energy somehow became trapped, because of some set of circumstances, on earth after a person’s death? Would this create what we think of as a ghost?

We have been told that only people have spirits by many of our spiritual leaders and yet if the above theory were true there would only be human ghosts, isn’t that so? But there are many animal ghosts that have been reported. Could it be that every living thing on this planet is endowed with a form of energy that exists inside their bodies? If that is so, would that indicate that animals have spirits? This is contrary to the teachings of many religions and yet there are some that believe this and take it a step further, they believe that when people die, they come back as animals.

Another question is, if ghosts and spirits exist are they all existing on an equal plane? The evidence, such as it is, indicates that this is not so. There have been reports of different types of sightings. One type is where the ghost appears and does the exact same thing during every appearance and seems to be completely unaware of the existence of anyone that might be in the area. Then we have the type of sighting where a ghost seems to be trying to interact with a human. An example of this might be where a child is seeing the ghost of another child and playing with it. There are many examples of this on record. Sometimes people report that they are asleep and wake up because a ghost has nudged them or pulled off a blanket or such. These types of sightings would seem to indicate that some sort of interaction between ghost and human as taken place. That is an indication that the ghost knows that the person is there and this is a completely different type of sighting than the first one mentioned.

I can’t help but think that some day in the future, all of this will be explained and it will have noting to do with dead people and the people of some future time will look back at us and think “oh those primitive people who really believed that ghosts were dead humans and animals were so ignorant.” Let's look at this thing from a different perspective. If we go back to the dawn of man on earth, he believed the same thing about ghosts being dead people and animals as we believe today. How many other beliefs from then are still held? There are not many my friends, because we have advanced in science and technology and most of the things these very ancient people believed have been proven wrong, but for some reason, the ghost idea still persists, isn’t this a little strange?

There is another theory out there that time itself can be altered by events and the events that create ghosts and spirits can cause some sort of fold in time. Following this theory to the end we get an assumption that ghosts are shadows or spirits caught between time. Can you imagine what it would be like to be between time? You might be looking out from your trap seeing the mass of humanity marching by and have no means of communicating with them. You might remain in this state until the end of time, even after the world of humans is long gone. Could any entity with any thought process bear this without going completely insane? I don't think so.

So what do you think about ghosts? Before answering this question, examine your heart for sincerity and give it a lot of thought. Could ghosts and spirits be the souls of people caught between time, could they be reflections of what was or could they actually be spirits that can interact with us? What do you think?
