Mediums
Graphic Source: Clipart.com Have you ever wondered about those so called spirit mediums that appear on tv and tell people in the audience all about their dead relatives who they say are trying to contact them? It used to be that spies were sent out who circulated around the audience and in modern times there might even have been microphones planted under the seats, but with the sophisticated mediums of the present day, they have other ways of finding info on a person, and they can find it fast. A quick internet investigation will turn up reams of info on almost anyone. You have to know how to do this, it is true, but you can bet that these people are experts at it or, at the very least, they hire experts to do it for them. So there is Mrs. Average Public sitting in the audience. The medium is taping his show as is mostly the case. He has about 300 people, or more, in the audience. Each person knows about an average of 150 people. That means that we now have at least 30,000 names to work with. The host asks who is named Joan or knows someone named Joan? Guess what, several people raise their hand? Why? Because the odds show that there should be several Joans in an audience of 30,000 people. Now I want to talk a little computereze to you. These people who are big time mediums are not stupid. It is possible to build a data base on almost everyone in the country and even the western world. Companies sell data in huge amounts on people and if one were to buy this data, and with just a little prodding get some relevant info from a person, you could actually find out a lot of info on a person. Better yet, if you knew someone who had access to these databases and paid them enough cash, I am sure that they would be more than happy to look things up for you. So here we have the modern method of being a medium, using a computer database. Big time mediums are very concerned with being accused of cheating so they ask the audience to sign a release. Some releases are over 4 pages long. ouch! Some releases prevent you from talking about any part of the show you participated in, they are like a gag order from a judge. If these shows are legitimate, then what are the mediums scared of? It great when a show can be taped because then it can be edited. You don't think for one second that these mediums are as successful in questioning as they look on tv, do you? Yes they are skilled at asking questions, but they can edit a tape so that in most cases they look much better than they really are. I myself don't hold much faith in these people, but I do feel bad that they give these false readings to distraught people. "Uncle Buz says hello and to go ahead with that investment.? "Gee, that's great, I think I will put my life savings into pet rocks after all." Doesn't this kind of stuff make you feel bad for these folks? We tend to think of this sort of thing as harmless and maybe many people might insist that it is on this level, but remember that it is being plied much further down on the ladder and people are being told things like, "Grandpa Joe says all your problems are coming from cursed money and you should bring it here so we can burn it to release the curse." As outlandish as this sounds, people are falling for this sort of thing every day. No the money doesn't get burned, it gets taken while something else is burned. Years ago you would go to a seance to see deceased loved ones. The medium would turn out the lights and the crystal ball in the center of the table would begin to glow. Everyone would hold hands and usually a cold breeze would be felt. Next the medium would begin to talk in a strange voice. Supposedly he was taken over by a spirit messenger who would say things like, "Your mother is here watching you and wants you to know she loves you." Sometimes a ghostly figure would float across the room or you would feel something brushing up against you. In some extreme cases the table would rise off the floor about three feet. At least you got a floor show for your money. Some mediums were know for giving information while others were famous for producing some sort of physical presence. Helen Duncan was a medium that was famous for the physical presence. She would come to your home or a church and conduct her seance. Her claim to fame was supposedly bringing people over from the other side during the seance that no one knew were dead yet. She was born in Scotland in 1898 and died in 1956. In is said that in one seance she had a sailor appear but no one knew he had died and that his ship sunk until hours later. Obviously she had some contact in the Admiralty and was privy to this information well in advance of the general public. Sometimes this type of information is not released right away until all the families of the dead seamen are contacted. We all know who the famous magician Houdini was. He was a man that dealt in tricks, but this was ok because we expect this of a magician and the more skilled he is in fooling us, the more we enjoy it. We do not like being fooled by mediums. People are desperate to see their deceased loved ones once more. Taking advantage of this, seems to me to be low. Oh well, to each his own. This sort of reminds me of a joke, it really has more to do with fortune tellers but here goes; a man is on the street, when he is stopped by someone who asks him if he would like his fortune told? He replies, if you were any good, you'd know the answer to that question.. |
