There has been a lot of campaign news going on lately, some of it is truly ironic. I saw an article where McCain blames Obama for the high price of gas. My goodness, if that isn't the stupidest thing I have heard lately, I don't know what is? The ad claims that Obama is preventing drilling for oil in this country. Give me a break, Obama certainly wasn't the guy that has been in power for the last eight years and he certainly didn't control the congress. If the ad was supposed to make us laugh, then I would have to say that it succeeded. There used to be an award for the dumbest thing done in a particular month, if they still had it, I would have to say that it would have went to the McCain campaign for this one.

It is hard to believe that a city in the United States of America, would set itself up to shield illegal immigrants from being deported and thus thumb it's nose up at federal law. It is even harder to believe that this would go unpunished and those illegals would actually be permitted to stay in that city, without federal officials going after them. As of the writing of this article, this was the situation last week when an illegal immigrant and I would like to add one that was no stranger to brushes with the law on prior occasions, pulled out an AK-47 assault rifle and sprayed another car, because he felt that it was blocking traffic. He killed the driver and his two sons. This was done by a man who was already a criminal by vestige of being here illegally and was being shielded by San Francisco. This guy was a member of a gang. Why are we putting up with this nonsense? This administration has completely failed in this area. It is time to stop supplying corporate farmers with cheap labor and enforce our laws. It is also time for local politicians to stop putting themselves above our federal laws.

Dinosaurs are in the news again. The Gobi Desert in Mongolia had given up the skeleton of a giant carnivore named Tarbosaurus. This beast was related to the Tyrannosaurus that we have all heard about. A museum spokesman for the Hayashibara Museum of Natural Sciences stated, "We were so lucky to have found remains that turned out to be a complete set of all the important parts," The fossil was of a dinosaur that was only about five years old. It was about six and one half feet long. If it would have grown to it's full size, it was believed that it would have reached about forty feet long. You have to wonder where the next one will be found and if there are any other types of dinosaurs out there that we are unfamiliar with?

The off again, on again Iranian nuclear investigation is off again. Iran ended it's cooperation with the U.N. The probe had been going on for about a year. The western countries face a real dilemma, they are trying to prevent a country that they feel is a rogue nation, from developing nuclear warheads and bombs while they have them themselves. It is true that when nations like Iran have these sorts of weapons we all get very nervous. There is no way short of war to stop a nation like Iran from developing these things. Even if they didn't, they certainly could send a dirty warhead, one made from conventional means and wrapped in nuclear material, into any country and do a lot of damage if they wanted to. As a matter of fact this is what Japan was planning to do to California in World War II, just before we dropped the nukes on them first. What is the answer to this problem? I really don't know, but I do know this, it seems that North Korea, which was headed on the same path was only doing that to get concessions and I don't believe that this is the case with Iran.

It was announced in the news the other day, that authorities finally caught a notorious war criminal. Radovan Karadzic, the guy responsible for thousands of deaths and the shelling of the city of Sarajevo. This was similar to the hunt for Nazi war criminals that has gone on for many years. This guy really had nerve. He knew that many countries were looking for him to try him for war crimes. Instead of hiding, he grew a beard and began to practice alternative medicine and was able to do this under a false ID for years. When he was finally captured, it could not be determined right away if his ID was false, or he had copied one from someone else, anyway he will be tried before the World Criminal Court, a court that the United States has never cooperated with and would be happy if they didn't exist.

Omar Gaddafi's youngest son was arrested briefly by the Swiss. Gaddafi, the longtime leader of Libya has retaliated by refusing to ship oil to that country. He went even further and stated that if the Swiss didn't apologize, that further action would be taken against them. His son, along with his son's wife, were held by the Swiss for two days on charges that they hit two of their staff. It turned out that the shipping company has ties to the son. On top of all this, any ship with a Swiss flag has been banned from entering any Libyan port. This was not the end of the retaliation. The Swiss companies of ABB and Nestle were ordered closed in Libya and it is also said that Swiss staff there were arrested. Gaddafi's son already has a conviction for assault by a court in France.

The French had stated that they are concerned about how many leaks are coming from nuclear power stations. The most recent incident was at Tricastin and it is said that at least 100 people were contaminated by what was called, “low doses of radiation.” Two weeks before this a reactor had to be closed temporarily because of leaks. It is now being said that reports of leaks in French nuclear power plants are up by ten fold. The director of Criirad, a private nuclear watch dog agency in France stated, "This type of contamination is a recurring problem, but that many people in such a short period of time, this worries us”. If this wasn't so serious you would almost have to laugh when the company that runs the reactor stated that the leak was not connected to the earlier uranium leak. The statement that there is no health risk certainly doesn't make anyone feel any better either.

The never ending conflict in the Middle East is in the news again. It is amazing to think how many peace talks have been conducted over the years without any resolution. Can there ever be peace there? I don't think that anyone knows the answer to this question, but one of the very large thorns in the side of the Arabs are the Jewish settlements that just keep spreading out. A committee from the U. K. Parliament has called for a meeting with Hamas, a group that the U.S. has called terrorists along with the Israelis. Gaza is experiencing true hardship from an embargo that Israel put into place when Hamas took over. The British feel that since there is now a truce in place, it is time to discuss things with Hamas. The U.S., European Union, United Nations and Russia have all stated that they would not talk with Hamas unless they recognize Israel's right to exist and they cease hostilities.

What is going on at Minot Air Force Base, first they mistakenly send out a bomber with nukes on it and then there are reports of launch officers falling asleep with code boxes in their possession? The base commander has been relieved and the Secretary of the Air Force, along with the Air Force Chief of Staff. I hope the new people do a better job than the ones that they are replacing.
