The American Civil War has always interested me. This interest lies not in the fact that so many died but in the fact that thousands of photographs of the war were taken. In its way, this war was a break through in new reporting. It was really the first war to receive battlefield camera coverage and that is what I find so interesting about it.

From time to time I am going to post photographs of it if I can find good ones that are available for posting. Here are some I just found, hope you enjoy them:

These pictures were taken between 1861 and 1865 in South Carolina.

Notice that General Stevens had the features of a handsome, young, movie actor.

The next group of pictures are of Fort Pulski, Georgia, they were taken in 1862


As you can see, Ft. Pulski didn't fare too well.

There is something about the last picture that just makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. It look like a picture that was just taken yesterday.
