Dragons in flight Throughout history we hear tales of dragons. Dragons as we all know, were a sort of flying lizard that breathed fire and were very large. We are told that many a knight met his end trying to slay a dragon and a few did slay them. The Patron Saint of England is Saint George the dragon slayer. It is said he rescued a princess form a dragon by killing it and thereby saved a town. But what of these dragon creatures, are they entirely mythical or did they ever exist? Most people believe they were made up because they helped create a good story, but there are a few people that believe that some day we will find evidence of their existence. Why is it that almost every culture in the world talks about dragons, is this just a coincidence, or is there something that this is based on?] Did you know that during the tragedy of 9/11 in New York City some people stated they saw a dragon? Sounds absurd doesn't it. Yet I found this photo in my collection, I don't think it is copyrighted but if it happens to be I will be glad to remove it. I am not sure where I got it and I can not vouch for it being genuine but I show it here as a point of interest. On the left is the picture the way it was taken, in the middle is a blowup of the dragon at the bottom, on the right is a blowup of the dragon in the enlarged insert. You can draw your own conclusions. In the 19th century archeologists thought that they found evidence for the existence of dragons in the form of a fossil that had been discovered. The evidence was the discovery of the bones of a Pterodactyl which was a huge winged reptile. Today scientists no longer believe that Pterodactyls were dragons but were just extinct flying lizards. Makes you wonder though, doesn't it? We know that dinosaurs existed for sure, so why couldn't a dragon have existed. It was much like a dinosaur except for the breathing of fire. If dragons didn't exist maybe there was a reason for dragons through out all the cultures. Much evidence has been presented showing dinosaur footprints right next to human foot prints. Could it have been that humans and some dinosaurs existed at the same time. Some people believe this to be a fact. This may well be an explanation since over time the dinosaur may have become a dragon in stories to spice them up. To buy this explanation however, you have to believe that proof shows man and dinosaur coexisted. While I was browsing the subject of dragons on the internet, I came across a site where the author thinks that not only are there dragons, but that they are capable of interplanetary flight and that the same fuel that lets them create fire somehow makes it able for them to do this. Sounds amusing, but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. There is a photograph of Titan taken by the ESO and it is a thermal photograph showing what looks to be the outline of a dragon on that moon. I wish I could show the photograph but copyright restrictions prevent that. The photograph number is phot-11a-04-fullres.jpg. Mean Dragons Dragons sometimes conjure up feelings of evil. After all don't they burn the virgins at the stake that were sacrificed to them? Because of this, projects, unpleasant projects, are sometimes named after them. The Green Dragon Project involved the gathering of evidence on the effects of nuclear pollution and the effects it has on the incidence of cancer. This evidence was put into a book titled, Wings of Death. There is a cave in Azerbaijan that is believed to have been inhabited as long as 1,000,000 years ago. The name of the cave is Azikh Cave. Legend goes that many years ago dragons lived in this cave. It is said that if you entered the cave you would never come out. It seems you became the main course for the dragons inside. The people in the area tell of a whole flock of sheep that wandered into the cave and were all eaten alive. Another explanation for dragons is that ancient people may have come across the bones of extinct dinosaurs and didn't realize what they were. As a matter of fact they didn't even realize they were extremely old and thought they represented animals that were alive in their time. Can you imagine what a caveman would have though upon seeing the bones of a Pterodactyl. This is the most likely scenario for the creation of the dragon legend. If there are dragons why has no one captured one? This question would have to be answered in this way. Big foot has been filmed several times but no one has captured one yet. The Lock Ness Monster has never been found or captured along with many other lake monsters. Rods have been photographed many times, but do you see anyone walking around with a rod in a jar? Sometimes it is just not possible to locate the animal you are looking for.
