The Most

I was wondering what it would be like to to find the MOST. What I mean is I thought it would be interesting to find the most in several categories. This is subject to opinion of course, of the person writing the article, but I thought it would be fun, never the less. So without wasting more time, here is what some people think is the most.

Did you ever wonder what were the most dangerous sports? I thought that I knew and that it had to be something like mountain climbing or deep sea diving or something of that nature. I knew that Mt. Everest is littered with the bodies of mountain climbers that have died either going up or coming down. What about those race cars going at hundreds of miles per hour with other cars only inches from them? You would think that this surely has to be one of the most dangerous sports one could get involved in wouldn't you? Well get ready for this, may I have a drum roll please? The most dangerous sport of them all is, are you feeling anticipation yet? The most dangerous sport is basketball. Do you feel let down? Are you wondering how this can be possible? Do you think that basketball is more dangerous than mountain climbing? I guess it depends how you look at it. If you are looking at which sport has the most injuries, basketball has over 500,000 injuries a year. We are talking about the total amount of people that get hurt playing the game, not just professional basketball players. So for shear amount of injuries, basketball has the nod. The second most dangerous sport, according to the amount of injuries every year, is bicycling with almost 500,000 injuries per year. Who would have ever though that either? I think I can understand this, I know I had a few bicycle accidents in my lifetime and I am sure that everyone out there who has written a bike has too. As for dangerous sports number three through 15, here is the list accompanied by the amount of injuries per year:
3. Football 418,000+
4. Soccer: 174,000+
5. Baseball: 155,800+
6. Skateboards: 112,000+
7. Trampolines: 108,000+
8. Softball: 106,800+
9. Swimming/Diving: 82,300+
10. Horseback riding: 73,500+
11. Weightlifting: 65,700+
12. Volleyball: 52,000+
13. Golf: 47,000+
14. Roller skating: 35,000+
15. Wrestling: 33,700+

As you can see the above list is by amount of injuries, but there are other lists around that use different criteria to classify which sports are the most dangerous. Here is one that uses the amount of injuries and deaths per incident. They list the number one most dangerous sport as base jumping. Base jumping is a sport where people parachute from the tops of buildings, antennas, statues and any fixed objects. Number two is Free Diving. That is where a diver takes a breath and dives as much as 400 feet down on a single breath. I think I will skip doing that. Number three is cave diving. A very dangerous sport where so much can go wrong and no one is around to help. Next is the world's fastest non motorized sport, Speed Skating. Then we have rock fishing, you don't want to fall off one of those slippery babies. Bull riding is next and I certainly can understand that. Next is Supercross, followed by Solo Yacht Racing, Street Luging (high speed skateboarding) and number 10 is our old friend, riding a bike.

Have you ever wondered what the most dangerous jobs are? According to a Cable Vision program, the most dangerous job is deep sea fisherman. Let's take a look at a list and see what they think it is. The number one dangerous job is listed as timber cutter, or as it is known, lumber jacking. There is no doubt that this has to be an extremely dangerous job with all those cables, machinery and falling trees. Using modern equipment, a cutter can take down 3 trees a minute, it is an amazing thing to see. The machine has a cabin like a crane, but instead of a hook at the end of a cable, it has an arm that has a giant claw for holding the tree, a saw blade and a three wheel like devices that the tree squeezes through. This strips the branches and some of the bark off. The next most dangerous job listed is a fisherman. Number 3 surprised me until I thought about it for awhile. It is a pilot. We have to remember that even though flying a commercial airliner is relatively safe, flying small planes in some parts of the country and world is very dangerous. Next are structural steel workers, those guys that work on the high steel on buildings and bridges. After that comes any occupation where you are mining different things and drilling, followed by roofers and then construction workers.

Here is an easier category to figure out, where are the most dangerous places to visit? Recently Pakistan has received the honor of being the most dangerous number one location on earth. I guess we would expect this in this region of the world that is much like the wild west was in this country, but there is a place in this country that is extremely dangerous and it is Arizona Park. How can one tell that this is a dangerous place? One tip is that the rangers wear camouflage and carry assault rifles. They are dressed and armed this way to combat drug smugglers. This is not a destination that you want to go to. "Rangers say it was only a matter of time before tragedy struck in one of the five national parks and monuments along the U.S.- Mexican border, where shoot-outs occur with alarming frequency. Some of these problems are unique to the border-region parks, but critics say that others—declining budgets, manpower shortages, and long-festering crises in management and identity—have put all rangers and the park-going public in harm's way, and accelerated the destruction of America's natural heritage.", according to one website.

Lastly I would like to explore the category of the most dangerous people. I would like you to keep in mind that this particular category depends on the person's point of view more than anything else. For example, some people say that the most dangerous person in the world is George W. Bush Jr. Other people say that there is no doubt that it is Osama bin Laden. Then there are others who have many different ideas on the subject. One list contains the name of Richard Perle. In case you don't know who this is, he is a conservative political analyst who recommended the hard line position against Iraq. Michael Moore, the documentary film maker has been listed as one of the most dangerous people. What supposedly makes him dangerous is that his films influence people in a negative way. I have even seen Dan Rather listed. Supposedly he is accused of giving bias news. My goodness there are hundreds of reporters out there doing this. I sort of think that this list is crazy. To me the most dangerous people in the world are from terrorist groups, but I can understand why Bush is on it after the invasion of Iraq.

It is entertaining to look at a list of things, like the most this or most that and you can accept some of these things if they are not objective. For example anything that you have statistics for, like the most dangerous sports, you can't deny those stats if they are reliable ones. If we were talking about the tallest or largest that would also be kind of cut and dry. The problem with a list of the most dangerous people is that we could all land up on it. An example of this might be someone that says that I as webmaster and author of articles on About Facts Net, am influencing people in ways I shouldn't. They could even say that you are dangerous because of things you say at work and so on. Then there are those people who have an ax to grind and put people's names on a list just because they don't like them. Oh well, as they say, what are you going to do, you can't change human nature.
