Why I Don't Specialize

Some people, who have noticed my not too subtle interest in space and space related matters, including ufos. have asked me why I just don't cover that material and forget about everything else I write about? It's funny, I have thought about their request, but no matter how hard I think about it, I just can't do it. The problem is that other things come up that I am very interested in and I need a forum that is wide open, so it allows me to get my thoughts down on any topic I desire. I realize that I have been going a little heavy into space and such lately and that is because there has been so much new in that area. There have been some very big ufo cases for example, such as the ufo that sat above O'Hare airport, the sighting in Texas where fighters were sent up to chase the ufos and local ufo events where many sightings have been reported. I just couldn't leave this stuff alone. NASA is preparing for a new manned Moon mission and that has sparked renewed interest in space travel, exploration and rocket technology, along with advanced engine and spaceship technology. An example of this is the fact that a new type of spaceship is being considered, one made of plastic. Ah, you think that it would be too dangerous to fly in a plastic spaceship don't you? Well guess what, it is safer. Garbage bags have proved that. No the last sentence was not a mistake, properties have been found in the lowly garbage bag that can protect better than metal against solar flares and cosmic rays. Isn't it ironic, all those expensive experiments that have taken place to develop a material that can do this and we had one right under our noses? True that they may be clothes pinned noses, but never the less the technology was there all the time. Scientists are stating that they have a way of making the plastic in bags stiff so that it can be used in construction. So how good is the protection from this type of plastic? It will cut the radiation from solar flares down by 50% and the radiation from cosmic rays by 15%. No it isn't perfect, but this is just a start. Remember that before this, it was thought that the only protection available was a lead shielded room. Then there was the statue that was found on Mars. That really picked up interest on the not so red planet. I say not so red, because recent finds have shown that the photos that NASA has put up on their site that shows a red sky and red earth were taken through a red filter and the real colors are more Earth like. These things and more are responsible for the extended interest in the subject of space, planets and ufos.

If I would have concentrated only in this area, I would not have had any opportunity to write a column on some things that I thought were important that didn't make the news. There is so much going on every day that many stories are reduced to the back burner or not picked up by the major news media at all. Stories are picked because of their perceived value to have people buy newspapers or watch a particular news program. It is a shame when a story about Britney Spears overshadows a great archeological discovery or something that has huge historical interest. I have seen these types of stories on page one when there might be a tiny paragraph about proof of an unknown ancient civilization being found. In my opinion, the priority of news stories is upside down. Take Iraq for example, it has become almost a non story and yet we have thousands of our people getting killed and wounded over there. Our allies are furious at us and many refuse to participate. You would think that this would be headline news at least a few times a week. The news media will tell you that people get sick of this stuff easily and it no longer sells papers. Do you think that if this subject was talked about more by the media, that newspaper sales would go down?

When I founded this website, I decided that I would cover just about everything that I was interested in and I thought that there must be people out there who are interested in the same thing. I decided to make the articles only about one page long for easy reading. I have been quite surprised by the response and the amount of daily readers that come to the site. I am also quite thankful, because it gives me a reason to continue. It took me two tries to get it right. I had another website before this, but there were problems with it and I decided the best thing to do was start over. I couldn't have made a better decision. I have tried to calculate everything on the site to make it easy to use. First I thought about the colors. The colors were selected to be very easy on the eyes. I tried many combinations. At first I thought that a dark gray background and light gray letters would be good and they were not bad. I tried black on white, the old standby. In the end it seemed to me that light blue on dark blue was the easiest for reading, I hope you all agree. The next big thing to consider was navigation. I hate those sites where you can't find anything, so I decided to list the articles a few different ways. All articles are listed by the article of the day on the home page, also under the general topic and lastly under the date posted. I incorporated the Google search engine and set it up for this site with an option for general web browsing. It is great of Google to allow this. Finally I put the topic index right up front on the home page so people don't have to dig around trying to find it. All these things were done deliberately.

Another of my favorite topics is ancient civilizations. That is why I was so excited to get an interview with Dennis Balthaser. Here was a man that had devoted a good part of his life to the study of the pyramids and on top of that also specialized in Area 51 and Roswell. This was right up my alley. I always appreciate getting an interview from an expert and someone that is often used as an expert on the History and Discovery channels. As a matter of fact I have had some very interesting interviews since I started. I am at the point where about 1/2 of the people I contact agree to the interview. It is funny that some people get offended at the littlest thing. There are a couple of people that sounded excited when I made them the offer and then told me they were ready. When I told them I needed a few weeks to prepare intelligent questions, they went off in a huff. I just can't figure out the reason for this? Most people are very polite. Sometimes I will send out an invitation for an interview and I won't get an answer. That makes you wonder if it is being ignored or the person just didn't get the email? Since I don't want to be an annoyance, I usually don't follow up and look for someone else to talk to. One time on a whim, I wrote an invitation to William Shatner through his fan club. I never heard anything, but neither do I know if he ever got it.

History is also a great topic, but there are problems with it. There is an old saying that states that history is written by the winners. That is oh so true. Many things that we take as gospel, as far as history is concerned, are completely untrue or partially untrue. I decided to test this theory one day and looked at a historical event that took place by reading about it from US history and then the history of the country it happened in. Wow, talk about a difference of opinion. Needless to say the same event was shown to have happened two different ways. An example of this is the Gulf of Tonkin affair. We stated that our ships were attacked there and went to war against North Vietnam. This is what our history books show. This never happened and President Johnson lied, plain and simple. He wanted us in the war. If you want to see something interesting check Vietnamese history on the subject of how the war started. I am sure if our history was written by the American Indians, it would not be the same as it is now either. Government is another hot topic. Boy do I hate the way things are going in Washington and I guess everyone who comes to this site knows that by now. I try and show others, when I get wind of something that really stinks that is going on. I don't know who agrees with me on this and who doesn't, but all I ask is please keep an open mind.

After all the different topics that I list on this site, I decided that a general topic was needed. Yeah I had so much to say that some of it didn't fit neatly into the categories I had. Rather than have too many categories, I decided to establish the general index of topics. That has seen all sorts of things discussed over the years, from Cheating Death to the places in the US that have the craziest names. Actually the biggest repository of articles is the General index. There are, as of this writing, about 237 articles there. It is hard to believe that I have written over 1,000 articles in the last 3 years or so, sometimes I wonder where all those article ideas came from and when I am going to run out of ideas?

So now you know why I don't really want to limit myself to any specific topic, even though I might lean towards one or another at times. As I always say, I am prepared to publish an article that is sent to me, if I deem it interesting and in keeping with the material on the site. So if anyone has an interesting article that THEY have written and want me to publish it, you can send it to me at Webmaster@aboutfacts.net. Please DO NOT send me anything that you didn't write yourself.
