Things We Thought We Knew For Sure
Graphic Source: Clipart.com There are some things, that we were positive we knew were right, that now could be wrong. Remember how were always told that the continents drifted apart and there was probably one super continent, millions of years ago? Well it seems that not all scientists are in agreement with this any more. Not only that, they are proposing a serious change in the way we think of this planet. They contend that what really happened is that the Earth got bigger and this rate of growth is increasing even today. They say that as the Earth grew, the continents were pushed apart by the material and water created. They boost their argument by showing that if you shrink the Earth, the continents fit perfectly together. They are saying that since the time of the dinosaurs, about 400 millions years ago, the Earth has doubled in mass. They don't stop here though. They point to Mars as being another world that is also increasing in size and contend that all the planets are growing. They do admit that there might be some slight plate movement, but on a large scale this is not happening. We were taught that planets like the Earth have a molten core. Well there are some scientists that don't believe this. There are not many, but a few that believe it is possible that a tiny star or even a black hole is at the center of the earth and when planets are formed, they all contain these stars or black holes. If this turns out to be true, this will certainly upset a lot of theories. There is also another theory that would account for some differences in mass when certain planets are measured and that is that some, if not all, of the planets are hollow. Some people claim that life exists inside some of these hollow worlds. Since there is not yet any scientific evidence of hollow planets, only cursory hints, the claim of life inside one of these worlds is totally unsustainable. We have been told that if we go on a diet, it is important to adjust our carbohydrates. Well a recent test confirmed that nothing could be further from the truth. The test indicated that the one important thing in a diet, is the restriction of calories and stated that adjusting carbohydrates has no effect what so ever. So stay away from all those new slick diets and if you want to loose weight, eat less and if you can exercise, all the better. We know that there were no people around when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, correct? This theory is backed by almost 100% of the scientific community. But there are some things that we can't explain that could prove the humans were around at that time. Some ancient cave drawings have been found that show man and dinosaur together, but the drawings are not from the time of the dinosaur. Stones have also been found in tombs in South America that have men together with dinosaurs painted on them. The stone are quite old and some think their age is about 25,000 years. Stone Axes have been found that date back 7 million years, far further than the event of man, or should I say supposed event of man. Scientists have refused to even look at the stones found in South America. Could we be wrong about the most basic facts of human life, is man only about 100,000 years old or has he been here for hundreds of millions of years? Lightning can be deadly and we are always told to go indoors during a lightning storm. This is a good policy, but you are not entirely safe indoors. Lightning can strike the phone wires or pipes outside, sending a deadly charge down either one of these and if you happen to be touching the phone or pipes, you can be electrocuted. Over 100 people die from lightning while indoors every year. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is charged with protecting the public, do we have to worry about our drugs? Well there are cases of continued reprimands of companies for practices that do not meet the criteria of the food and drug administration. One case is of a well know drug company that received 14 reprimands so far and is still producing product. The reprimands were for misleading consumers. You can't get political asylum here if you come from the a European Union country. Wrong, in 2001 a French citizen was given political asylum. The reason was he had blown the whistle on a pedophile ring, which included some government officials from Nice, who were molesting his daughter. Do people who die of Alzheimer's disease really do? Well unfortunately not all do. Here is the scary part, two universities conducted studies into this and one found that 13% died of a different disease, while the other found the figure was lower and set it at 5.5%. The disease was mad cow disease. The human form is known as CJD. See Gabe Kirchheimer's article, "Bovine Bioterrorism and the Perfect Pathogen." in the book, "Everything You Know Is Wrong. Ritalin is a drug used for children the world over who are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. No, this isn't true. Over 90% of the drug is used in the U.S. and the rest of the world uses only 10%. There is certainly something wrong here. Curing poverty will lower the incidence of AIDS in African countries. Sounds good, but it is entirely wrong. As imports increase, the incidence of AIDS goes up. This is because truck drivers and migrants come into the area and they get infected and spread the disease even more. It has been calculated that a doubling of imports will cause a quadrupling of AIDS incidents. We inherit one gene from our mother and one from our father. Sometimes this is true, but many times not. We can inherit as many as ten copies of one gene from one parent. There are even times when a person has a missing gene. Unfortunately, before this was learned, testing might have caused people to get erroneous reports that suggested signs of potential defects. When tested these people seem perfectly healthy. So these are only some of the things that we take for granted, there are a lot more. Never be too sure of what you know, because you might be wrong. |
