Strangeness In Our Solar System

If all our heavenly bodies were formed from the big bang then the elements that make them up should all show some uniform placement, at least that seems logical to me, but I am wrong and I don't think that anyone really knows why. A good example of this is our moon. The surface of the moon contains many heavier elements. Logically these elements should be near the core of the body but on the moon, they are on or near the surface. The moon is littered with titanium along with many other heavy elements. Moon quakes occur frequently, yet no one knows why. No active volcanoes have been found yet on the moon, but many geologists believe that some of the craters were caused by volcanic action. The moon has a density of only 3.34 gm/cm3 which means that there may be large hollow areas inside of it. Imagine, we may have a hollow moon and not know it. The moon's surface turned out to be very hard, that is why the astronauts had such a hard time drilling into it. The moon's crust is composed of illeminite which has a lot of titanium in it. Please don't think that it is only the moon that is strange. Many planets and heavenly bodies have strange facts attached to them. Let's take a quick look at Mars. The Spirit robot rover was just doing its thing. Rolling around and examining whatever it came across, when it came to an unusual rock. It has a tool for scraping the surface off of a rock and used it. When it trained its microscopic Imager on the scrapped rock and sent back a photo, everyone's heart missed a beat. The rock looked like terrestrial follose lichen, not like a rock at all. Was this a biological object or a rock, no one can say for sure? If it is biological then there is life on Mars. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, it is so close that it receives seven times more light than the Earth. There is a problem explaining the age of Mercury. Mercury is far older than our own planet or at least that is what some scientists believe. Even more puzzling is the fact that some scientists are sure that Mercury is shrinking and they don't know why and just plain don't understand the reason. A space craft is scheduled to reach the planet in 2011 and look for buckling of the surface. This would indicate that there is shrinking taking place. One theory states that the planet Mercury was formed over a molten core that is cooling, thus causing the planet to shrink but nobody can be sure this is correct. Mercury is slightly larger than our moon but is about as dense as the Earth. Looking at our own planet we find that it too has mysteries of its own. One of these is the Taos Hum. This hum is heard in many different locations throughout the entire world. It seems to operate between 30 and 80 Hz. Some say it sounds like a far away engine. One thing that makes this sound even more mysterious is the fact that microphones can not pick it up. It is called the Taos Hum because it is at its worst at Toas, New Mexico, where it is said to drive people away. The hum is so bad that Congress directed a research team to try and find out what was causing it. Strange as it sounds, only about 2% of people hear the hum. The researchers have ruled out all external sources. Venus is a planet that is relatively unknown. It is our neighbor in space but hasn't received the attention that Mars, our other neighbor, has. A very strange thing is happening on Venus. The atmospheric flow on the planet is creating a double vortex at the planet's south pole. Venus is completely covered by a dense atmosphere that hides the planet's features. All this may change soon since a chip is being developed that will allow viewing of the planet right through this dense layer. Jupiter, the giant of our solar system, is also hidden by a heavy atmosphere. Even with this atmosphere there are mysteries. Marks on the atmosphere that can not be explained easily, seem to come and go every so often. One such oval mark appeared in 2003. It was a sort of gray spot that circled the globe, much as the great red spot does. The difference in the spots is that the great red spot is a storm that has been raging for hundreds of years. Titan is the large moon of Saturn. This moon possesses something that we haven't even found on any other planet yet, it is a primordial atmosphere that some scientists are saying must be like that of Earth billions of years ago. Photographs have been sent back to us by a probe and it is believed that ice made from water covers the moon but also ice that is referred to as being mixed with other things. There is almost universal agreement that this moon is too cold to support life. It may look that way, but life has turned up before in harsh environments on Earth. Will Titan become another Earth in the future, who knows? Chances are against it though, since it is much further from the sun. As you can see, there are mysterious things happening on many of the bodies in our solar system that just can't be explained. There may be a lot more mysteries that we haven't come across yet, remember we have not only the nine planets to explore but all their associated moons. Ah we are in for a grand time in the future. |
