The Newest Pyramid
|
When one thinks of pyramids they think of the pyramids of Egypt or perhaps the pyramids in Mexico or South America. Who can blame them, where else would you expect to find a pyramid, certainly not in Europe? Well guess what was found recently, a pyramid in Europe, or more precisely a pyramid in, of all places, Bosnia?. Sometimes the very big discoveries are not made by the experts but by amateurs and this is one of those cases. An amateur American archaeologist Semir Osmanagic decided to examine a hill more closely and to his amazement, as he dug, he uncovered cut stones that were piled in the shape of a pyramid. The site was to be excavated for six months but the excavation had hardly begun before the structure was unearthed. Osmanagic had believed that he would find a pyramid at the site that would date at least from 12,000 B.C. He also believed that it would have steps and be about 720+ feet high. What this belief was based upon I do not know. The pyramid was not the only thing that was found. A long tunnel was discovered but where it ends is not yet known, but it is believed to connect to at least two other hills. Paved entrance ways were also found, along with huge stone blocks. Egyptian archaeologists are due to join the team soon. The hill is located near the town of Visoko. Osmanagic is no stranger to pyramids, he has spent the last fifteen years studying the pyramids of South America. If Osmanagic is correct, the pyramid will be at least one third higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza. Can you imagine this, the Great Pyramid will lose it's position as the largest pyramid in the world? Osmanagic stated, "It is so obvious that the top of the blocks, the surface is man made," It is believed that the entire pyramid should be visible after this summer as the dig progresses. There are a couple of other hills in the area that may also contain pyramids but that is yet to be proved. Could Bosnia turn out to be another center for great pyramids rivaling that of Egypt. One never knows, and if the pyramids turn out to be over 12,000 years old, they will be older than those in Egypt. Could it be that the pyramid builders were in Bosnia first and moved to Egypt or even moved to South America? If the pyramid is a step pyramid, then that is the same type of pyramid that is found in South America. Will tombs be the next thing to be found? The discovery of ancient tombs would greatly increase the knowledge of the ancient peoples of the area. What we have here is one of the greatest archaeological finds ever made. This could reverse our thinking about all the ancient people of the Earth. It may turn out that they were much more advanced than we ever suspected. Everyone does not believe this claim however. One specialist in the prehistory of the area claims that in 12,000 B.C. there was hardly anyone living in the area because it was the Glacial period and extremely cold. He also states that the only people ever recorded in the area were simple hunters and gathers and their simple stone tools have been found in open areas and caves. He goes on to state that these kinds of people didn't have the talent or desire to engage in any type of construction. Other experts go one to state that they believe that digging in this site will destroy Medieval, Roman and Illyrian remains. It seems the experts don't like amateurs and many are expressing their displeasure. What bothers me is that they all seem to be criticizing the digging as some sort of fraud but none of them seem to have looked at the site to see what was uncovered. I would think that before you can call something like this a fraud, you have to go and see it for yourself. It is like those so called literary experts that review a book by reading a synopsis of it, but never read the book itself. I personally hate this type of review. I can't speak for the so called experts, but I am excited at the find. I can't wait for the structure to be exposed and dated. It it turns out to be a pyramid that will be great, it it doesn't and is something else, that will be great also. Maybe it will turn out to be some sort of Roman structure, but that would not disappoint me. An intact Roman structure would still be very interesting. I am still rooting for a pyramid however. |
