Atlantis was located at the coast of the Baltic Sea.
Map of location of Atlantis
The source for the existence of Atlantis comes primarily from Plato.
Unfortunately, until now, one has hardly considered the fact that Plato had broken off his Atlantis report after he had hardly written one fourth of it. With it he had broken off a debating duel, which should have been integrated into the report.
The place, which Plato has described in his Atlantis report, is located off the coast of the Baltic Sea. Every fact except one agrees exactly with Plato's statements. The one thing that does not agree, is the time in which the Atlantians should have lived.
In the last work of Plato, called Nomoi, which he had written after the uncompleted work mentioned above, one finds an unambiguous explanation that shows why Plato had broken off the Atlantis report. Furthermore, it bears out my theory on Atlantis that Atlantis had sunk millions of years ago. Nowadays more and more scientists believe that men walked the earth during the time of the dinosaurs. It was this idea which Plato wanted to transmit to posterity.
Plato wanted to describe the history of mankind with this saga. At that time, however, it was believed that mankind was only a few thousand years old, the same as it was still believed approximately 200 years ago. So this downfall that Plato wanted to describe, happened according to his saga, approximately 9000 years before Plato´s lifetime.
At the beginning of the Atlantis report, Plato describes the creation of humanity. After it, he wrote about the tidy, paradisaic times, in Athens and also in Atlantis. Then in one paragraph, Plato writes that the Atlantians degenerated in the course of time and therefore Zeus wanted to punish them. At this point, Plato's report suddenly breaks off.
Plato must have had doubts during the continuation of the saga about its correctness. Because of the degeneracy and decimation that Plato believed occurred in mankind, the human race would have needed millions of years to recoup, not thousands as Plato had suggested. If the downfall happened millions of years ago, than nobody can know about the details. So the continuation of his work, which was conceived with a war of the Atlantians against the Athenians, was pointless. Plato wanted to convey true history and didn't want to spread a false story.
He now had to alter his plan, but he still used the old sagas. In his book “Nomoi” (3. volume) he described them generally and with no more detail than the names of kings and nations. This he had used in his Atlantis report.
Nomoi starts with the examination of states, which were still governed according to divine laws. In the third volume Plato's writings are quite similar to the beginning of the Atlantis report where he talks of the destruction of mankind. He writes that all cities have sunk and with them the knowledge, the art and the craft. He states that only a few shepherds had survived because they were atop high mountain. After a very long time the population grew and in the course of time people founded cities again.
Plato now investigates how the life of these " single sparks " of the human species developed further. The shepherds were humble and uncultured men. They didn't know metalworking, writing, politics and so on. The knowledge of Atlantis, as Plato writes, was hidden from generations for a thousand times thousands of years, (hence millions of years) until shortly before Plato´s time when people began to invent it again.
This story would not be so sensational if they had not really found the ruins of a city from primeval times. After the end of the ice age, the ruins of a city were discovered off the coast of the Baltic Sea. It was nearly unbelievable for the people who found these ruins. They didn't´t know cities of this magnitude existed at that time. The tale of this city spread over the whole of Europe. They considered its builders as giants, Gods or demigods.
In the course of time the Baltic sea ascended slowly. The king's castle, that was in the middle of the town, sank again during a flood. The castle was surrounded by three ditches and two landings and by six high walls. These walls had lifted out the midsection of the city like an island lying before the coast. With a heavy flood, the walls burst and the whole island sank.
Sagas were told all over Europe about the great and powerful city state Atlantis, and how it had become so advanced. Only few people outside of Germania knew where the ruins were located. They looked for them in Egypt, in Assyria, in Greece, in Italy and everywhere there was an advanced culture, but nobody thought that it could have be in the cold north.
The barbarians in the north weren't really interested in the ruins of Atlantis. They were more interested in the old kings from which the gods were said to have descended and their castles. Seafarers from the north reported to the Egyptians that the island of Atlantis had sunk. This was believed to have happened one to two millennia after the first discovery of the Atlantian ruins.
What was the layout of Atlantis? Was the whole island a city or was it a country, or was it only part of a city or country? This point is still controversial among the researchers of Atlantis. The island was the center of the town, it contained the castle of the kings, which stood before the coast of the Baltic-Sea, which sunk into the sea.
Almost everything can be explained and so can this if we look at it in the way that Plato originally wanted us to. Millions of years ago, the coast of the Baltic Sea lay near the equator, therefore there were elephants and wine there, as it is described in the saga.
There was no gigantic state 10 000 years ago and no gigantic continent, that should have sunk in the Atlantic. This is also severely questioned by scientists. However he didn't mean that a small island state like Malta or Sicily or Helgoland sunk either. Such a catastrophe, that occurs from time to time, cannot have been interesting thousands of years ago.
Did men exist with the dinosaurs? More and more scientists consider this as very probable because of many findings.
A town in the north of Germany is a mystery still today. It is the fabulous city of Vineta. This place is the subject of most German sagas.
The king of this gigantic ring-installation is still of great general interest. Tolkien has written a fiction about this theme which became the basis of a famous film. Tolkien must have suspected that all the many northern sagas and also the Atlantis report have a common origin. “THE MASTER OF THE RINGS” was not the master of miraculous rings. He was a sovereign who lived in a big castle which was surrounded by a huge annular fortification.
