When we think of the ancient world, do we think of primitive people who weren't too smart that went around digging in the mud to make bricks for their huts? Well I suppose some of that is true but it gives us the wrong impression of what early civilizations were really like. I am willing to bet that if you could devise a fair IQ test that could be taken by a people from about 5,000 BC and people today, there wouldn't be much difference in intelligence if any. Not only that, but I wonder if we were placed some where in the past, anywhere from 5,000 BC to 100 AD, could we have constructed such marvels as the pyramids, huge Greek temples or sophisticated Roman structures? I think that the answer for most of us would have to be a resounding NO! There are still so many things in our past that we don't understand. The arguments persist, even today, on how the pyramids were built. We are still trying to figure out how huge blocks of stone made it to the top of that structure when there was no machinery available.

The solution to moving huge blocks of stone seems to have been discovered by the ancients. There are so many examples of this throughout the world that we have to consider that they surely knew something we didn't. Some people say that given enough man power you can move anything, but this doesn't explain some of the ancient cities that are on top of mountains in South America. The stone in many of these cities is not from the general area. Oh there are the people that say the aliens helped primitive man. This is sort of an excuse to explain everything that we don't understand. We might as well say that ghosts had a hand or God came down and lifted these blocks. But there is another possibility, one that may make more sense in the long run if proof is ever found. That possibility is that the human race in some areas on Earth was more advanced than we are today, and that these cultures may have been wiped out, leaving behind some secrets of advance technology that gradually were lost over time. Outrageous theory you say? Not really, if this theory turned out to be true it would explain a lot of things. After all, how do we really know that this is the first time around for the human race on this planet? The planet is billions of years old, yet modern man only goes back about 40,000 years ago and now there are archeologists saying that this may be too far. So why isn't there any evidence of man dating back millions of years ago?

There may be evidence that shows man has been on this planet before that is being ignored because archeologists don't want to look foolish and ruin their reputations. Human footprints have been found right next to dinosaur foot prints in the same petrified mud that certainly seem to have been made at the same time. There are burial stones that have been found in South America that are very old and show men riding dinosaurs. At the time these stones were carved and painted, no one knew that dinosaurs existed. There is a temple in Egypt that clearly shows paintings of a jet plane and helicopter that was painted on it's wall thousands of years ago. Models of the plane have been built and they fly perfectly. Some Egyptian tombs even had small gliders in them, similar to the type you buy for you children that are made from balsa wood, they also fly perfectly. But how can this be, flight wasn't discovered until modern times, or was it?

It is beginning to look like we may have history all wrong. So many things turn up that just go against everything we were taught to believe about our past. For example, there is something called the Piri Reis map. Along with several other continents shown on the map is the northern coast of Antarctica. It is believed that the map was drawn in 1513. The mystery here is that the map shows some of the coast that is under the ice. How could a map have been drawn almost 500 years ago that does this? An ancient vase was found in Egypt that was carved from stone and is perfectly shaped. The technology would be challenging today but thousands of years ago it seemed to be impossible. The inside of the vase is perfect and it stands on a small base. Creating this type of vase would require lathe turning, tube drilling and saw cutting. Not only that, it would require cutting behind corners. Saw cuts can be seen in some stone objects. These saw cuts are over 5,000 years old. What could the ancient Egyptians have had that could saw through hard stone?

As I said we think of our ancient ancestors as primitive people that were not as intelligent as us, but if this is true, what were the ancient Greeks doing with a clock type computer over 2,000 years ago? Until this device was rediscovered in the basement of a museum, we never suspected that anything like this could have existed. It had perfectly cut gears and predicted the positions of the heavens for ship navigation. Suddenly, we start to realize that our view of Greek science is wrong, they were way more advanced than we thought. When they first experimented with steam and created a primitive steam engine, the human race could have advanced thousands of years in just a couple of hundred. Can you imagine if steam engines were developed 2500 years ago and they had railroads and factories and the like? Imagine where we would have been today on the technological scale. Instead no one followed through, or at least we don't know if they did. The human race lost a chance to advance thousands of years. Next the Romans came along and they were the ultimate engineers and doctors and again the human race blew it. Not only did we not take advantage of this knowledge but we went into the dark ages and lost much of it.

Even today there is still more to learn about the ancients. One man may have discovered something about moving large blocks of stone, his name was Ed Leedskalnin. He is the builder of the famous Coral Castle in Florida. Somehow he managed to move pieces of coral that weighed over 20 tons, by himself and without heavy machinery. He even had to move the castle from one location to another and again did it by himself. This remains one of the greatest mysteries of modern times. Did he discover some ancient method for doing this that we are not aware of today? Who knows.
